creative
anyone tried it yet? just downloading the iso now. Microsoft site looks like it couldnt cope with the demand and they havent released the beta keys yet but you can use it for 30 days without.... or longer with a hack;). so thats a good start! JustGav
I had a play with 6071 or something along those lines and there wasn't much worth while in it. This however has my interest purely for the HTPC stuff... and the fact that surface computing is supposedly part of it.
Pixelfill
The server kept timing out when I tried to get hold of it this afternoon / evening, and then they announced the following Update on Windows 7 Beta Availability Due to very heavy traffic we’re seeing as a result of interest in the Windows 7 Beta, we are adding some additional infrastructure support to the Microsoft.com properties before we post the public beta. We want to ensure customers have the best possible experience when downloading the beta, and we will be updating this page once the beta goes live. Stay tuned! We are excited that you are excited! how could they have not predicted the demand given how shocking Vista is ? Mike

3LL
i have release #7000 installed and registered. its rock solid. imagine Vista but faster with more effects. its not that bad actually, the #7000 beta is actually fully functional and tbh imo it would warrent a release at its current level, its lookin that complete! if you cant find the keygen for this send me a pm and i can direct you to the valid crack that legitimately registers it so you can update it etc
imi
what are the hardware requirements for system 7? are they as bad as Vista or will a WinXP machine be able to run 7 comfortably?

Axle
So, what exactly does this mean for Vista?
3LL
i have the following.. AMD athlon 64 3500 (2.2ghz) 1gb Ram 128mb GFX you need 3GB space for the complete system and swapfile and it runs on mine with no lag, no slowdown, no anything really. its solid. all vista and xp programs work fine, you can upgrade from vista or xp from inside windows using the iso i snagged, or you can clean install [which i did] I have all the graphics effects on and its also using explorer v8 media player 12, paint 12 and loads of other brand new appz. TBH i dont usually like microsoft products and im far from a fanboy, i usually run Ubuntu 8.10 as my main system, however I have to say I am impressed with this version they are bringin out, AND given its still in beta and has full support for all my old programs, including nero 8, and there are no missing sections to the operating system.. im well happy
3LL
So, what exactly does this mean for Vista? windows 7 was originally in development after XP, however there were a number of serious flaws discovered in Xp so development was slowed down on longhorn as it was called back then and they focused on releasing several service packs for xp. around this time they decided to take what they had developed so far for longhorn and release it as vista, which was classed as a minor release. [minor meaning it was not a major operating system upgrade as the kernel was not dramatically improved over the last OS] .. they then resumed development on longhorn. Incidentaly it was re named to windows 7 as the kernel it is running is based around "minwin" which is a stipped down kernel from XP and is designed to run a LOT faster.. as this is the 7th major kernel re design it was re named as such and the name stuck.. In answer to your question though, it will mean nothing for vista for some time, however this OS is so far scheduled for release 1st quarter 2010 and you will probably see support for vista run until 2012 at which point it will be discontinued as the majority will be running windows 7 by then. System 7? Circa 1993 IIRC People are so desperate, more than excited, to get away from the dire OS as Vista, that they've overloaded the switchboard. A good start. Not. More of a restart with extensions off
Pixelfill
I've made the mistake of installing it on my laptop. I looks an performs well, but I've got 3 drivers missing and unavailable so no sound One of the things I really wanted to look at was the new Media Center. Anyone else missing drivers? Presumably the Vista ones should work - if only Toshiba had released any for Vista !!! Mike

Mike Mike the vista drivers should work perfectly fine on this OS, if you have managed to register you may be able to find some via windows Update if the hardware vendor has vista drivers available
Pixelfill
I'm loath to activate for the moment I've installed the x64 version, and might revert back to 32 bit version if I have little more success. Windows update hasn't found drivers for it. Toshiba didn't release Vista 64 drivers for my laptop, so I'm trying any drivers I can get hold of Mike
3LL
before you revert have a look on the hardware vendors site to make sure they have the 32bit drivers available to save another headache just incase! Only other thing i can think is see if they released XP 64bit drivers and try installing those, when it says the driver was intended for another OS, click continue and see how that goes? I have to agree there seems little support for a lot of hardware when your trying to run 64bit. I have an athlon64 and have never even used it above 32bit for this very reason! lol
Pixelfill
Much better as the 32bit OS, I've got sound working, and only 1 unknown device now and I'm sure I won't miss it Now to set about breaking it Mike
