NatsupraTT
Its an absolute disgrace that its only during real adulthood that having a good nature becomes a benefit. During school life being a nice guy and backing away is seen as week. I took OIS (office and information studies) in school, which was mostly taken by girls. I got a ribbing, i won't say bullied as its nothing compared to what your son is emotionally being put through, because it was seen as "gay". Personally i couldn't see what was gay about choosing a class full of girls in OIS over a class full of guys in "woodshop". I expressed my opinion in this and almost got a black eye for my trouble. Thankfully there will be a light at the end of the tunnel for your son and i'm sure he will be a fine gent in his adult years. I can't even imagine how hard it is for, or to convince him that HE is the better man. Parenthood must be a nightmare in these situations. As much as i look forward to being a father i am honestly petrified of being a father in that sort of position. Yeah it is hard and very upsetting and sometimes he does stick up for himself but im worried by him doing that he will get beaten,my other son got bullied too but cause he got marfans syndrome and learning difficulties but nothing wrong with the other son just that he gets bullied for hanging about with girls, could be a jealousy thing and i told him this but he still hurting. Just hope it dont follow him when he goes college.
Axle
Yeah it is hard and very upsetting and sometimes he does stick up for himself but im worried by him doing that he will get beaten Have you not tried introducing him to martial arts? Also, what has your husband done about what your son is experiencing? Is your son and husband close at all?
Rob
Would not like to comment on what you have, but calling NHS direct would be a good start tonight. Glad you are seeing the doc tomorrow, hope you are well again soon. Calling NHS direct is never a good start to anything, unless your hobby is wasting your own time. SilverSoop
I had double pnuemonia when I was about 6 - 7 years old...all I remember was not being able to breathe and I was constantly out of breath and I was curled up in a ball on my bed before I got rushed to hospital and I was in there quite a while...it was so scary! And all the Doctor's said it was a ''chest infection'' Oh how wrong they were!!
Axle
Calling NHS direct is never a good start to anything, unless your hobby is wasting your own time. Yep. They would not want to even attempt to diagnose what they think it would be. They would just tell him to pop to the doctors. Those kind of numbers are more useful for informing people of the function of the penis/vagina and to promote the use of condoms... I suspect. Even then they get it wrong. NatsupraTT
Yeah they close and my husband did grab one of them once but there is too many and i mean hundreds and not in 1 gang its different people,i tried to get him into martial arts or something but he not interested he not the fighting type, but its the name calling thats bothering him,he wont be able to fight them all off there is just too many, It hurts me also to see my 16yr old son break down and grab me and cry. Im sure the teachers are scared of the school kids nowadays. What really gets me is when the school and education dep keep threatening me with fines or prison for my son not going to school cause of this, and yes i told them the reason why he sometimes wont go. A bit off topic but I was watching a programme last night where kids as young as 5 or 6 SEXUALLY ABUSE other kids in schools and is very common nowadays!! And apart from bullying, you now get sexual bullying too... It worries me alot to think kids as young as that doing things like that...
Carl_S
SS I wonder if sexual abuse amongst children has become more common, as you suggest. I find it hard to believe, but possible of course. Of course adults sexually bully eachother too, and some without consent. I recently heard of a couple of big bullys pulling down the pants of another guy while he was severley drunk. One of these big bullys then got a massive concete block and walked towards the prone trouserless guy. Luckily he was stopped and nothing untoward happened. Let's not forget male-male prision rape, apparently commonplace in the US. Actually, let's forget it.
Carl_S
Yes Rob, calling NHS direct is a waste of time. However, I have gained comfort and advice from a qualified doctor whilst I had flu, when I felt too Ill to leave my bed, and not ill enough to call 999. So if you can bear the wait, I feel it is a waste of time that occasionally may bring some comfort.
Guest StevieG
Ive had asthma since I was about 7, it sucks not being able to play a whole football match without having to be taking off before having an attack:(
TooColdToDrive
Anyone on here suffer from asthma? I have no idea what just happened to me but i was absolutely floored by my breathing. Since i was a kid i have had a few strange things happen to me with regards to allergies and breathing. In the winter i always get hayfever like symptoms, i'm pretty sure its during the transition from hot to cold places and vice versa. I could also start wheezing while doing light excercise or whatever. A few times i went to the docs and they would blame chest infections, or whatever, but what hit me tonight frightened my wife so much she almost phoned an ambulance. I started wheezing quite heavily, i had felt it before so didn't panic. It got a lot worse than normal, to the point where i just had to lie down and concentrate on keeping calm. I managed to slow and concentrate my breathing. I didn't quite get it back to normal but it was at an acceptable level. This lasted for about 20 mins where i went downhill again. The 2nd time it happened it got really bad. I was struggling to breathe out as well as in. I have read that struggling to breathe out is normally assosciated with asthma? I was starting to worry but trying hard not to panic so fobbed it off with the wife even though i could hardly speak. Right now i am feeling not too bad, i'm still wheezing but i'm controlling my breathing to try and calm it down. A few months ago i had a browse around and found this Linky which seemed to describe my symptoms to the letter. I have never ever experienced what happened tonight though. I'm not the type of guy to go to the doctor or the hospital unless my arm is falling off. My wife was crying at the state of me and i still wouldn't go so she was ready to phone an ambulance, thats how bad it got. Any ideas? I'm almost positive i'll be absolutely fine tomorrow and if i go to the docs i'm going to get told the usual chest infection rubbish. I don't think i have serious asthma as i have never needed an inhaler and i knew what to do to relax the muscles for breathing, but i would like to hear from anyone with this sort of experience. I never knew what breathing difficulties felt like till now, i couldn't even blow my nose i had so little breath. Bloody scary! Sorry for the long thread, wanted to try and get as much info in as i could. Hey there - this does not constitute as professional medical advice since I'm only a medical student - but try a hot shower, it sometimes helps with upper respiratory infections (maybe not so much with asthma). Might help you out

Might help you out I had a hot bath last night buddy and it did help a good bit. I had heard that taking a bowl of hot water and breathing over it can help too, much like you do with a cold. Anyway, i'm fine and dandy this morning folks. Thanks for all the advice and well wishes. I'm definitely going to see the doctor on monday as i agree its not something to be taken lightly. My only concern is that i get fobbed off again. I'm going to be pretty stern though, that its not a chest infection. If i had thought i should have recorded my breathing at the time i just hope there is not a "next time" to give me the chance lol. Cheers for the vid Nic

You're referring to a "peak flow meter" I think. Scotster, you could ask the doctor to perform a peak flow test.

Scott
Yeah thats definitely one of the tests i plan on asking for. Spoke to my mate who used to suffer from asthma really badly. Going from what he is saying it doesn't actually sound like asthma. Its strange, i've never had any problems from playing sports or anything. I have noticed that i tend to get wheezy when my chest is cold. How and ever, i'm sure i'll find out soon enough
