benkei
Anyone else heard this? I saw it on the news today. Apparently giving people (not sure who yet) free memberships to the gym will make them healthier and therefore reduce illness and save money on treatments... I see this as an epic failure and complete waste of money! A good theory, but so many flaws!! Anyone who goes to the gym or trains in some way will know that you have to change your diet and lifestyle in order to get any REAL benefits. Going to the gym and then picking up a KFC on the way home will NOT make people healthier!! Birmingham are the first to get this as a test I imagine to see how popular it is. My girlfriend is a trainee gym instructor, and she says there are hardly any jobs in her area (West Brom-ish)... So do you think if this goes ahead it will create more jobs? Obviously as more and more people go to the gym because it's free, then the gyms will need to be bigger and in greater numbers to accomodate the increase in gym users, therefore creating more jobs. Or will tihs last a year then thr NHS will become even more in-debt than it is at the moment and we shall all die as we cannot afford ot be treated! They already have a gp referral scheme for the gym, i used it when i was having physio - he recommended it basically you pay a subsidised fee for using the local (council rin) leisure centre gym i suspect it is exactly the same scheme just repolished. Carl_S
Sounds like a good idea. There are some good council gyms out there, but I doubt that it would be for the top of the range gyms. Your girlfriend is about to embark on an excellent profession.
