AndrewOW
Some people may be bored of all this cold weather we've been having, but for some of us right on the south coast of England, we haven't seen truly cold weather for lots of years. Well just this lunchtime I took Lexi for a walk over to the nature reserve opposite where I live for a walk around the lake. It's not a small body of water by any means, but it is nearly completely iced over, bar for a small patch where all the birds have congregated. Unfortunately a lot of them flew away when Lexi went out on the ice to investigate. Where I'm standing on the ice there's about 2/3 feet of water underneath, so it was a nervous moment taking that photo, I must say! I would've said that another few days of below zero weather, and this thing would be skateable! Maybe I took some photos. Has anyone else got any photos of winter scenes near them, at all? AndrewOW
http://www.whackynation.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/versoix-ice-storm.bmp http://nsidc.org/snow/gallery/ice_storm.jpg Wow! I would be at a slight loss to know what to do in that situation! Scraper, no. De-icer, no. Jug of warm water, no. Wait until summer, yes! What if you'd taken a kip in your car over night, if you got stuck in that. Entombed in an icy grave. You're brave! I'd never have stood on that!! Lexi doesn't have a coat on, hardcore dog, Stig is freezing at the mo!! She doesn't seem bothered by the cold at all. I was thinking of leaving her coat on her all day, just so she keeps warm, and except for getting under the bed clothes during the day, she's never looked reluctant to go out. Where is that Andrew! Cant for the life of me work it out. Its been a well kept secret (until now!), as it's a real haven that's situated right in between Lottbridge Drove and Sevenoaks Road, where I now live. Its lovely to walk around the lake during the summer, as you really feel as though you're in the middle of nowhere, rather than in the middle of the town. Kinda BTW I still own the flat, just renting it out to Dave Watson.

AndrewOW
Thats amazing! Thank you. I thought I was being very brave out there on the ice. Oh, you mean the Googled images? Well, I suppose they are quite impressive.
AndrewOW
Some other piccies on the subject, on the BBC website. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7816181.stm I wouldn't go as far as saying I'd like to dare to actually go skating, but its so unusual. All we need now is a couple of days of snow, and we'll be buggered!

AndrewOW
Just an update to this, before it defrosts on monday (mild with heavy rain predicted), I met a couple of guys that decided that it was a good place to try and fish by making a hole in the ice about 50 feet from shore! They said it was over 50mm thick out there. Amazing. These guys were originally from Lithuania, but hadn't come all that way just to fish on a frozen lake in Eastbourne, I might add. They were from Crawley! That may explain it, really.
