Multics
I recently did an oil change to the Skyline. Nissan recommends 7.5w30 however the garage put Sunoco 10w60 oil, it's a full synthetic, apparently a good quality oil although not very known. Oil pressure is much higher now with this new oil, if I understand correctly higher pressure means lesser flow so less good lubrication. Also I use the car daily to go to work and it takes ages for the oil to warm up. Should I go for a thinner oil ex: 5w40 or should I not bother? Ian W
I wouldn't say you need to bother mate, just make sure its nice and hot before giving it some stick
JustGav
By no means an expert on oils, but surely the original 7.5w30 stuff the engine was meant to have is sufficient? I had a bad experience with mobil-1 stuff 5w50 or whatever it was...(Not supra related though) Edited January 7, 2009 by JustGav Didn't realize this was non-supra as well.. Multics
Thanks for the answers guys. The 10W part is ok. All I'm worried about is the SAE 60 part. As it's cold out there and don't really boot it, oil temps are quite low. As far as I know the flow resistance measured in centistokes (cst) of SAE 60 at 100deg Celcius is 24 which basically means that it flows less better than a SAE 50 or 40 hence the higher oil pressure. Plus it takes very long to reach 100deg Celcius aswell. Yes it's a can of worms and it's been discussed before, but I think I'll be switching to Motul 300v 5w40 to put my mind in rest.
