Ford Escort Cosworth

Graham goode racing,reyland.

They are 2 I can think of from the top of my head.

Thanks, will have a look!

No offence but i fail to see what this car would give you over an Evo for the same money apart from headaches.

see below...

The main thing it would give you over the Evo is individuality as evos are very common and the cosworths are now a dying breed.

However performance wise you would probably much better off with an evo or subaru for bang for bucks.

Exactly that!! Evos and subarus are common, a true escort cosworth is a very rare beast!

My only concern is that at these sorts of prices, I might well consider a 22b as well :)

A friend of a friend owned an Escort RS Cosworth (maybe still does). I'll ask him what the running costs are like. He's a hard chap to get hold of though, so don't hold your breath for a quick answer.

Ford cosworths may have had a ne'er-do-well reputation when they were more current, but I think they're classics now. I'd love a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth to play with.

That would be great... no rush, as I obviously cannot decide what I want

Graham pop down and see me mate, we have taken on a Cosworth specialist and you can have a chat with him. We have an escort cosworth on the dyno we were mapping today and it made 544bhp at the flywheel. Our cosworth guy also owns an ex-WRC escort cosworth, it's here too :) At the moment we also have a Fiesta being prep'd for a magazine, a Cosworth powered combi :rlol: and a mk2 Fiesta with a cossie lump too.

And I have to say, I'd definitely have the one on the dyno - very nice :) But then I am an 80's boy :D Although I'd definitely have a smaller turbo, good grief is it laggy !!!

Love the Escort Cosworth, was very surprised to see one turn up in the latest Need for Speed. I didn't touch the supra as it looked a bit dated against the other marques but couldnt resist the cossie.

Back in the real world, I had a MkIV RS2000 (bonnet buldge model 1992) and loved it. Kept it over 4 years, not done that with any other motor. Rust was the biggest killer and I am sure would be an issue with the cossie as they are a similar year - the rear arches and petrol area would rust through due to a design issue with the cap.

Thanks for that, will keep an eye out if I decide to go look at any.

How long will the car be around for? End of the month? PM coming... :)

I must say a 22B is the only subaru that would tempt me-another rare beast!:)

Performance wise they are not great compared to a Supra but they tune up well and can get to similar power levels as a BPU Supra without too much hassle.

It was the car i was going to own before i got my Supra but i couldn't justify the £6k insurance quote i got at the time compared with £1500 on the Supra (22 years old)

The Escort cosworth is a classic and certainly not a chav mobile they could never ever afford the insurance on them.

Insurance was scary expensive for cars like this so not too many were made and so they have kept their prices very well indeed.

Are you looking at a smaller tubby or the larger laggier one ?

I expect if you bought one and looked after it then you could probably sell it on a year later for not a lot less than you paid.

I think, I would honestly go for 22b over the cosworth... Always loved the 22b, but its another car, that only enthusiasts will know.

I just can't see past the fact that it looks like an escort! I think i would rather spend £15k on my Supe...I'm pretty sure that most non-enthusiasts would just see it as a chavved up escort as well...

:D each to their own. But I would not spend that much money on a car thats price is dropping like a stone.

Its a different type of performance... Insurance might be a bit of a concern, will have to look that one up. Smaller turbo, up to bpu supra type power.

Escort Cosworths look mean as hell, they don't come with any Chav/council estate stigma attached as far as I'm concerned. I nice white big turbo model with Morettes would do nicely :) (oh and a set of 18" Rondells :D)

My mate had a mint one for sale, came with full black leather too, it was washed everytime he went out in it, think it only had 50k on it & he'd owned it for the last 12 years

Are you actually being sarcastic? I hope so! :)

Not in the slightest.

Regardless of what the car is or how it performs its been tarnised by the wrong brush for me, you can hang around in tescos car park if you so wish, which is where you'd find them now.

I see more Supra's hanging round Tesco than Escort Cosworths :)
