merckx
If you can still get a flu jab I would highy recommend that you do, it's not too late. I feel absolutely terrible, I was hoping that I should start to feel better by now but the opposite is true and I'm feeling much worse. Terrible headaches and a raging temperature, the tablets just don't have any impact at all.

jamesmark
Besides is it not 'Type 3' flu that is raging across the UK? The flu jab is an inoculation for 'Type 1'.

Pete
I had the flu jab and have still ended up with a blinding cold. I'm deaf in one ear from infection, nose streaming and my head feels like it's going to crack open every time I cough. However, I refuse to call it flu until I'm unable to move aching in bed. Pabs
i'm sorry but i really don't believe in these flu jabs. EVERYONE i know who has had one (10+ people) have all been caught by it this xmas - all badly. personally - i make sure I keep fit, eat right, make sure proper balance of vitamins etc, and hope for the best. They do say if you keep fit, and your BMI at the right level, your far less prone to getting ill. I always looked at these jabs as a "small dose" of the illness, so your body can build up it's defenses. However, if your body isn't strong enough to start with, I think you can probably get the flu itself from the jab! If you get me. Just my 2 pence worth. Pabs
yeh ok, so maybe i missed that. Still - don't see the point in flu jabs full stop. especially jabs that are essentially pointless lol

Pete
EVERYONE i know who has had one (10+ people) have all been caught by it this xmas - all badly. Ahh but real flu or what I've got? Too many people say they've "got flu" and just have a bad cold. I always looked at these jabs as a "small dose" of the illness, so your body can build up it's defenses. However, if your body isn't strong enough to start with, I think you can probably get the flu itself from the jab! If you get me. Yes, that's the idea of the jab - to build your immune system up from the jab they give you. I had mine months ago so not related. I'm sure they can't immunise for everything though. I'll have to dig out the paperwork for what jab I had. I've not been ill like this for many many years and have quite a strong natural resistance (maybe from nearly dying from a very premature birth?) Pabs
Ahh but real flu or what I've got? Too many people say they've "got flu" and just have a bad cold. 1 was hospitalised, the rest not far from it by all accounts. I know that at least 3 of them were bed ridden for a week, and looked REALLY bad when I saw them. The others, admittedly, i can only go by what I was told through family/friends. I suppose my point was the 4 or 5 close family members that I have that were not "jabbed" were all fine... with a 1-3 day cold or whatever. bigcol
well if anyone is stupid enough to get the flu jab then they deserve all they get, had flu jab twice now and both times have been really ill for at least 6 weeks later, Mrs Col didnt bother this year and has been fine, i had mine and so far have had to have 4 courses of different anti-biotics to stop the chest infection turning worse into pnumonia or something, everyone i know who has had the jab has been really sick after it, not just blokes either so keep the man flu bullsh!t to a minimum:D

Holden1989
In my opinion, the Flu jab does work, of course it is only a small barrier, if you go out in a t shirt or wash the car in the freezing cold it cant protect you so much I have Cystic Fibrosis and i can honestly say that the flu jab is the only thing that keeps me mobile throughout the winter, this year i missed my jab due to moving back home and not finding the time to re register at my old docs, and lets just say im really feeling it, if i get flu (by which i mean proper flu) its develops into a full blown chest infection/tonsilitus over night, and iv been really ill for 3 weeks, and like Michael refers to it as, being on the brink of death
merckx
I'll definately be getting the jab from now on, I suffer a little from asthma brought on by household dust so I could've got it for free but I stupidly refused the offer as I thought I would be okay. My breathing has been really laboured at times, not nice at all. Michael refers to it as, being on the brink of death The worst time by far for me was twelve or thirteen years ago, there must've been a particularly bad strain around as I didn't sleep for three days and nights. I'm not exagerating at all but I thought I was going to die. I remember reading a national newspaper a few days later that confirmed that sufferers did feel like this as it was that bad. . Holden1989
when i got flu 2 years ago i got tonsilitus and glandular fever at the same time, i had to be admitted to hospital as my windpipe nearly closed
