Jason
I have just put the deposit down on a Jap spec Twin Turbo RZ. I have to get some security sorted out for it, could someone please tell me if this model comes with any alram/ immobiliser system? Thanks in advance, Jason
Terminator
Hi and welcome to the BBS. J Spec MKIV's don't have security as standard. Matt Harwood is your man he will get you sorted. He should be along soon.
Matt Harwood
Hi Jason. I would expect your insurance company will require a Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser. Check with them first, but that's probably the safest bet for you own peace of mind as well. As Phil says, they come with nothing! If you fancy a long drive to Maidstone, (!!!), I can do you very good deal. Or at least tell you what's good or not...
Jason
Thanks for the information, which alarm system do you recomend or is it down to personal preference on the supras?
Matt Harwood
If you like gadgets and toys as well as good security then Clifford is probably the one to aim for. Best one to go for is the Concept 600 - Intellistart is good for warming your turbo's up:D Clifford's can be tempermental sometimes. If it's just pure security your after then Toad is my preference, closely followed by Sigma, Laserline. There's plenty more out there like Scorpion, Cobra... The list is endless. Stick to a good brand name. All IMHO of course

Installed by a bunch of cowboys!!! .... ps not by Matt! Same people that didn't fit the speakers I paid for....grumble grumble...grrrrrrr
Matt Harwood
If you switch on and off the ignition quickly, you'll get a short beep from the alarm. This stops the alarm passive arming for one cycle and stops the windows from closing... Sometimes, they beep as you turn of the ignition for no apparent reason - This would cause the windows not to close. You still haven't cured the intellistart problem... If you get the system "to hand" one day, call me, (01622 683044) and I'll talk you through some possibilities.
JohnK
I have had a few cliffords on various cars, my best advice to you is its well worth traveling miles and geeting it fitted properly, only time a cliford let me down was when it was fitted by people that dont know what the hell they are doing. Cant state that enough, get it fitted properly.
Jason
Thanks for the help everyone, I did have a Clifford in mind, I just wanted to make sure.
tDR
Toad Ai606. Cat 1 and fully installed all in for £250 locally. No problems whatsoever with it and I've heard many other people recommend this system on the SXOC.
Dragonball
Sorry to hijack thread Jason - but all related Matt Which was the tracker that you recommended before m8? RAC or another? Anyone got one on and happy? Cheers Paul:cool:
Matt Harwood
Agreed, the Toad Ai606 is a very reliable and stable security system. Has some good features too. £250 is a good price. The RRP on them is £349. - Of course, I can do it cheaper still! Only one comment on price though. In my experience I've seen lots of installations that are cheap jobs. Not 'jobs cheap'... Badly installed systems, no boot/bonnet switches, no/half/incorrect immobilisation, sirens in easily accessible places... There are exceptions, but try to get recommendations of installers, and at the risk of generalisation, aviod adds in some certain 'performance car' magazines that come to you. From experience, they don't like coming back to you when/if you have a problem. Tracker Monitor is the one that I believe is one of the better ones to go for. As I said before, this is manly due to the active Police support regarding vehicle recovery. All the above, very subjective, very IMHO
Flipfinger
Amen - avoid the mobile installers, the guy who came to fit mine on a previous car came with everything he needed to do the job......except the actual alarm that made the noise! I tried for a good 6 months to get him back out / get my money back, and never did. Took the Supra to a very good stereo / alarm fitter in Ipswich, took him all day (in fact, it was a year to this very day, September the 11th, where were you, I was getting my car alarm and stereo fitted) and for a very good price. tDR
Got it done at a place called Skidz in Falkirk, Scotland. Seems to be a good installation to me as it works in tandem with the standard Cat 2 keypad immobiliser (This is on my 306 I'm talking about) but I'm not an expert. I wanted it done that way to make sure it was unlikely that any little thieving bastard could nick my car in a hurry. Don't suppose you know anything about them Matt? They are VSIB accredited and I have a little certificate for my insurance.
tDR
On Sept 11th last year I was sat in my Uni Bar (place called the cooler) in Liverpool with a couple of m8s. I was half drunk when I saw it on the telly screens in the place and thought I was imagining it and was drunker than I thought.

No, I've not heard of them but they are on completely the opposite side of the country from me. Where, was I this time last year... Oh yeah, here.
