Rob
Hello plumbers of the Supra World! I've been ripping out my shower recently and have discovered the reason why my toilets don't drain very well, and sometimes, to be frank, back up with excrement from one toilet to another. In the attached pics the main horizontal soil pipe is actually higher than the invert level at the back of the toilet pan. Question, Can I remove that awful multi-fit collar thing and bung the soil pipe into the pipe below with a short length of pipe (with female adaptor on) thus lowering the whole run of pipe and also, the 40mm basin/bath pipe which is also horizontal, below the soil pipe, can I "splice" that into the shower pipe which joins the SVP much lower down? Is there a risk that the height of the basins waste-pipe will cause bath water to flood into the shower tray as the shower tray will be more or less at floor level? What do I do about the gas if i do it, as the SVP will be open for a short as possible a time? Do I just grin amd bear it?

Guest st1nky
Question, Can I remove that awful multi-fit collar thing and bung the soil pipe into the pipe below with a short length of pipe (with female adaptor on) thus lowering the whole run of pipe Yes, im guessing you mean a socket on one end. (buy a 1m length of pipe and use socket end) Bath/Sink - can I "splice" that into the shower pipe which joins the SVP much lower down? Yes, as close to the base of the stack as possible and using a Y not T piece Is there a risk that the height of the basins waste-pipe will cause bath water to flood into the shower tray as the shower tray will be more or less at floor level? if the main 4" waste gets blocked then yes, if the bath/sink is close to the connection with the main stack using a Y piece you should be fine. tbh its not exactly ideal what's there but then i guess you knew that hence your request. There is one thing you could try that would save time and fittings, if none of the grey fittings have been glued then try taking the 'multi fit' collar out and seeing if you could shorten the length, quite often you will get 120mm before any locating stops..... if you only needed 20-40mm to get a fall on the toilette waste you may get it that way (can't tell from the pictures) eg: http://www.max1t.com/random/marley1.jpg ps if re routing the bath/shower waste try to keep the bends shallow as there ere no access points in cases of blockages
Rob
tbh its not exactly ideal what's there but then i guess you knew that hence your request. Aye, well its how someone built the house, so I thought now is the only opportunity to make it better. There is one thing you could try that would save time and fittings, if none of the grey fittings have been glued then try taking the 'multi fit' collar out and seeing if you could shorten the length, quite often you will get 120mm before any locating stops..... if you only needed 20-40mm to get a fall on the toilette waste you may get it that way (can't tell from the pictures) No, the multi fit collar is sitting in the top of another collar, so it won't move any lower. I hadn't considered that anything might be glued, that could bugger things up. ps if re routing the bath/shower waste try to keep the bends shallow as there ere no access points in cases of blockages That's a good point as I was considering a 90deg bend going straight down at the end of the long run of basin pipe. Guest st1nky
re: multi fit collar Sorry chap what i meant was to physically cut the multi fit collar down, i would imagine it's M/F .... depending how much drop you need to get a fall, cutting 20-30mm off the bottom of it my get the fall, remembering to run a file around the fresh cut edge to help it locate and fit. If there is a reverse fall on the toilette then having everything glued is entirely possible lol
sprag5
what you will need to do is *remove the multi adaptor *replace it with a 4" tee but with a 45 degree unlike the tee piece you have * now you will have to put a short piece of pipe and a 45 degree bend to connect onto the toilet 4" waste * the sink waste which is probably 32mm unless it has be made to 40mm will hav to be bosses into the pipe above the 4" tee as the shower waste has been done! hope u get the idea off this pic but my paint work is pretty bad ps i am a plumber
Rob
Ahhh, now that's a good idea. I'm liking that. Plumb Centre it is for me tomorrow then. I'm also thinking I shold plaster every joint with mastic once I've done it all, as when the shower and walls go back in, its a total "rip-out" job to get back in there. Unless there is some way to make a waterproof access hatch in the wall.
sprag5
Try screwfix as they are cheaper then plumb centre! also plumb centre will rip your eyes out if they sense your not in the trade! Just use all pushfit fittings with a lubricant to make sure they push in easy enough and for putting the sink waste in that will need to be drilled into the pipe and the "strap on boss"(the same fitting your shower waste is connected to the 4 ") will need to be glued on you could also try and refit the exisitng 4" tee above the new 45 degree tee to see if you have enough height on the sink waste to run it straight into the spigot! If you can do this you will just need a 4" fitting to 32mm or 40mm pipe depending on what size it is Hope you get sorted
