Welcome to the club (I'm always careful to welcome SZ owners :D )

Yes, have a poke about. Speedo conversion is one of the most frequently talked about topics here. There are loads of ways to do it, but only a few ways to do it right.

I would bet that there is nothing that can't be fixed by a little detective work and a few hours with a soldering iron. Your garage isn't looking beyond the end of its nose.

When we talk about removing the converter, its probably worth checking that all the severed connections are remade. Since there's no speed signal, the re-broadcast wire from the odo may have been cut at some point, and this may not necessarily be near the odo / speedo.

I agree, make sure all the connections are ok after removing the converter. If the fault then still persists try changing the ODO, this was the fault with mine. The ODO rebroadcasts the speed signal to cruise, ECU spoiler, p steering, air con and if faulty will cause error codes.

ODO is definitely £38 +VAT, if you change it, your mileage will be set to zero. Get a UK ODO, will automatically read in miles. The J spec and UK ODO take an identical signal but interpret differently i.e the odo does not need a converted signal. I'd leave everything else Cruise, ECU, Air Con, Power steering receiving an unconverted signal so it works as it was designed to, which is what I have done The only problem with this is that the cruise will be limited to 70 mph if fed with an unconverted signal and speed will be limited to 112mph. To address the speed limit you either need to fit a speed delimiter, Pete Betts, HKS, again what I have done, or feed the ECU with a converted signal. If the car is an auto, I'd go for a speed delimiter as a converted signla appears to make gear changes rougher.

To address the cruise issue you will need to feed the Cruise ECU with a converted signal. I haven't been bothered as yet to change this.

I had a similar problem which was fixed by using a TRL DSC (Digital Speed Converter)

The TRL unit takes the speed signal and reproduces it....like a signal booster in a way. This fixed my speed signal issues.

I would change your old speed converter for the TRL unit assuming that you proove it is the problem via Mark's suggestion.

Can't remember the trl web site...have a search for it if no one else volunteers the info in this thread
