This look quite interesting :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-Wide-16-9-Touch-Scree-FM-16GB-MP3-MP4-Player-TA5-16R_W0QQitemZ370135482047QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioTVElectronics_PortableAudio_MP3Players?hash=item370135482047&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1300%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1308

Axle
This look quite interesting :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-Wide-16-9-Touch-Scree-FM-16GB-MP3-MP4-Player-TA5-16R_W0QQitemZ370135482047QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioTVElectronics_PortableAudio_MP3Players?hash=item370135482047&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1300%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1308 That looks too wide and cumbersome. you dont need somthing like that. Whatever you buy, you just need to keep it basic. Often in the gym these things take a serious pounding. So you need somthing sturdy and lightweight which wont (or can) take too much damage if it falls from out of your pocket. One of the most important things will be headphones. Your going to loose intrest very quickly if your head phones keep falling out and/or are uncomfortable and produce crappy sound. Bare that in mind. Thats just as important as the MP3 player itself imo. Somthing like this i would personally go with http://www.mymemory.co.uk/MP3-Players/SanDisk/SanDisk-2GB-Sansa-Clip-FM-MP3-Player---Black i saw this in Currys the other day for £25. It was reduced. It is smaller then it looks, neat and perfect size for the job really. As i mentioned earlier, imo it would be worth investing in some decent earphones. As more often then not the ones which come with these players (sub £100) are rubbish/average at best, and the good ones will set you back more then the MP3 player itself. stevie_b
No specific recommendations, but I'd go for a well-known make such as Apple or Creative. For cosumner electronics in general, an obscure far-eastern brand may look fine, but quite often their user interface can be clumsy and really spoil the whole thing. Thorin
Those SanDisk ones seem good. Or a Sony S series one. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/12/10/koy_mp3_players/ I want one of these, http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/12/24/review_pmp_cowon_s9/

Muffleman
I had a Cowon iAudio X5L, and it was just great, sound quality was really good. That died and I now have a 32gb iPod Touch. The iPod is a swish bit of kit, but the iTunes interface gets on my tits
Shane
I have bought a few of the cheaper ones over the years from Ebay and some have lasted some havn't. The missus has just bought me an Ipod shuffle for Christmas and although I said I would never go down the ipod route because I didn't want to pay for itunes. But, now they have made it so you can transfer anything to the ipods it is really great. The suffle doesn't have a display which I thought might be a problem but using it for the last few days on the train this hasnt been a problem at all. Thoroughly reccomend the shuffle and it's so small too. Would reccomend that you get inner ear headphones though, but guess that;s a personal thing. MaveriK
Have got the inner ear headphones, what a difference they made. Do you have to use itunes with the ipod or can you transfer as an external drive?

michael
A lot of gyms have machines that support specific MP3 players now, they can charge them or let you control the music from the TV screens etc - might be worth checking with the gym as it might help you decide what to go for. I suspect they will support iPods mainly though.
colsoop
I use an ipod shuffle. Cheap, very small and rugged. I have had mine for a couple of years now and it has had hard use and still works well. Make your playlists in advance then power it up and off you go.
