You could do worse than look on DABS.com

Camcorder prices have really come down over the years. The equivalent model to the one my ex-wife bought about four years ago for £800 is around the £300 mark now. Its a Canon MV something or other. MV800 maybe?

1394 is the "proper" name for a Firewire or i-Link port. If you don't have one you should go to a PC shop and ask for an OHCI (Open Host Controller Interface) compliant Firewire card. It will cost you about £20, maybe even less.

My advice is to steer clear of "branded" cards (like Pinnacle) as they can tend to be incompatible with some hardware and software (including your camera). If you get an OHCI card you should be fine with anything you want plug into it, or use to capture and edit the video.

Pretty much all camcorders wil do what you want. The final choice is down to you unless you want something specific.

Thats the one I was going to suggest...its current, DV will be around for a couple of years yet!

For £260 I think thats excellent...you can get DVD camcorders but i have heard nothing but bad stuff about them!

I got this one for Christmas, or rather the DC18 - this is the DC19.

Very happy with it, took it over Monserrat in a helicopter over the volcano and the footage was great. Very pleased with it.

1394 as people have mentioned is just a firewire port. Looks like this. You'll need to check the back of your PC to see if it has one, but most Sony camcorders will let you stream it through USB also (there is a specific option to activate the USB stream on the Sonys- let me know if you get one and Ill show you what I mean!!!)

I use NeroVision express to capture the fim from the camcorder and put it onto my PC. Let me know if you need a copy of that plus cracks etc.
