hogmaw
I admit it, I am way out of date in many things. For instance, I prefer vinyl records to CDs and (god forbid) downloads, I have an old car (the Supra ) and I still record TV onto video. But after going round my mums for xmas, I saw her HDD/DVD recording thing which pauses live tv and has freeeview etc. I was amazed, especially as they are only £150 or so. Can anyone recommend one to a simple layman like me, or are they all pretty much the same?
RedM
Panasonic DMR-EX78 or EX88. Not the absolute latest but still very good. One thing to note is that the quality is very poor unless on the 'best' setting. This is true of pretty much all of DVD/HDD/PVR gizmos. merckx
I've got a Panasonic DMR-EH50 and the quality is great on the standard record mode. My brother has a slightly older model and that's great too.

Ewen
Some have basic video editing and DVD burning capability too if you ever feel the need to put camcorder footage onto DVD. We've done a few home movies, with decent results.
ManwithSupra
Do you have a ps3 if so you can get Playtv http://uk.playstation.com/ps3/hardware/accessories/detail/item102429/PlayTV/ This add on for the ps3 pauses live tv and has dual freeview tuners (so you can watch tv and record another program on another channel) best thing is ... it only costs about £50.... but you do need a ps3 first but its a good add on if you already have one. Pete
Interesting. I didn't know about that - I was toying with buying a PS3 and this might have just settled the decision for me as I also wanted a PVR. Anyone used one? Is it a good solution or just a gadget fudge as these things so often are.
