Drivers side window not working

My drivers side window has been playing up for ages. Sometimes it will go down but slowly. Sometimes it will be fine unless I let it get all the way to the bottom then it won’t come back up, sometimes it just does nothing.

Giving the side the door panel/switch a bang brings it back to life.

I replaced the switch with a second hand one and whilst the door panel was off it was working ok unless I let the glass get the bottom them it wouldn’t come back up.

The strange thing is if I gave the door panel a little bang (i.e. directly behind the normal location of the switch) it was fine. Now I've put the panel back on it will hardly move at all. Worse than ever.

I thought there might be a loose wire hence the banging on the panel working but couldn’t see anything. Any suggestions would be good!

Thanks.

My window is dodgy aswell, it sounds like it is labouring a lot. It never 'just doesnt work', but it sounds like its dying. Sometimes it has failed ot come up, although you can hear it trying.

I removed the doorcard today and the cable that hoists the window up is frayed, anyone else had this, or is it normal to be a bit frayed? At one point it looks pretty shitty, kinda frayed around itself. Doesnt loook good tbh.

I had a similar problem which Jurgen had come across before, mine eventually died and was stuck half down. In my car, it was the copper coil that goes into the window motor, Jurgen gave this a clean with a steel brush and sorted mine out. The cover from it was stupidly hot so check that on yours too :)

I had this happen on my old scoobie ...I gave the solenoid and just about everything else behind there that can move electrically a massive dose of pocket rocket , let it soak for a while and hey presto ! it all worked nicely again ! Worth a try ?

Yeh tried that already, no joy :p

Gonna have to get a new cable I think, no solution to it if its frayed. I checked the other door and no fraying at all.

If it's the cable going into the motor that's frayed i had to replace the whole unit as when i asked Toyota about it they told me it wasn't available seperately etc so i got a replacement from the scrappy (The replacement from Toyota was something daft like 5 times the price of the scrappy part).

I had no idea what i was doing but managed to strip down the door replace the motor and put it all back together in about an hour if not less.
