edd_t
For my birthday coming up in Febuary the GF has finally given in and said she will go to a car museum with me, woohoo But which should I choose? I'm guessing the mains ones are Beaulieu and Haynes. Beaulieu looks really nice, they say they have around 250 cars, and its quite close so would be a day trip for us. Haynes have around 400 cars but its looks like they are just all lined up in a big hanger. But its far enough away to make a nice weekend out of it. Has anyone been to both? And are there any other out there to consider? http://www.beaulieu.co.uk/lotstosee-national-motor-museum.cfm http://www.haynesmotormuseum.com/museum/exhibits.html Cheers people

ivan
Beaulie is great. Much more there than only cars. Can easily be a whole day out. Haynes is very good but as you say, it's just loads of motors in a large display area. About 20 decent supercars and many, many old ones. Took me about an hour to see everything and then there was nothing else to do apart from sit in the cafe.
stevie_b
I've been to Brooklands recently. Very well done, not just supercars lined up, but also some old servicing garages, AA boxes etc etc. If you like Mercedes, it's next door to their test area: I think visitors can go inside the building, kind of like a Merc-specific museum. As you said, planes too! There's probably more to see at Beaulieu though.
Tricky-Ricky
When we where having a little break a few months ago in Hampshire, the idea was to go to Beaulie, but after talking to some people who had been the year before and where motor heads, they thought it wasn't all that an was more aimed for kids these days, we ended up going to the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum, and enjoyed every minute of it. Ewen
If you go to Beaulieu, and fancy a drink / pub meal, try the old shipbuilding village of Bucklers Hard. Lovely place, pub, Maritime Museum including some cottages that housed the shipbuilders of Nelsons navy. Its a couple of miles west of Beaulieu. There are a couple of nice pubs in and around Beaulieu too.
Bobbeh
Do they have one at Donington? Brooklands would have been my suggestion also, as with gaydon, but isnt Brooklands owned by Mercedes now.. so you might have to wade through a lot of their sales crap in the process
Chris Wilson
Donington museum is superb, you need a full day there to see it all properly.

dangerous brain
You like planes??? Go to Duxford air museum instead, you'll so not be disappointed. Beaulieu is in the new forest which is in itself a tourist attraction and downright loverly place http://www.beaulieu.co.uk/ Its a place I intend on a visiting some time (guess as its on my doorstep I haven't bothered yet)
