hadyn
What would be the effects of running an aftermarket ECU mapped to run 550 injectors on a j spec TT with 440 injectors? Too much/too little fuel?
Steve
Too little fuel
hadyn
Which would result in?... Im thinking of swapping over a remapped stock j-spec ECU from a car with 550cc injectors (j spec on twins) and putting it into my j-spec with 440cc injectors
Steve
Who was the stock ECU remapped by?
hadyn
Its been mapped by Top Secret so I presume its a similar setup to Mines/Blitz/Toms remapped ECUs...
Steve
Do you mean a Blitz modified one for example? Raised rev limit, advanced timing, boost cut removed etc? Edit: too slow
hadyn
Yup!
hadyn
The guy I'm getting this ECU off has said its run in a car with 440s with no problems apart from 'petrol wash' resulting in big flamage and sometimes taking about 20 secs to start the car when warm. hadyn
I get the feeling it may have had an SAFC etc to sort the fuelling out for the 550s...
Ryan.G
It would be hard to say on how it would react tbh on the fueling front as the 550 injectors are low impendance compared the 440cc being high so the deadtimes/lag times will be different which could cause the fueling to be too rich with the top secret ecu and some 440's. Either way dont do it and just get an emanage ultimate. Have seen loads of Blitz and Tom's ecu equipped car on the dyno and you can hear some of them knocking outside of the car where they run too much timing for our fuel. hadyn
Right,so Blitz/Toms/Mines ECUs are a bad idea for UK 98+ ron fuel?
Ryan.G
Right,so Blitz/Toms/Mines ECUs are a bad idea for UK 98+ ron fuel? In my opionion Yes but as they sometimes produce another 5bhp more than a car with a stock ecu people love them.
hadyn
So if I plug this into my j-spec with walbro fuel pump, 2nd decat and stock boost im basically risking grenading my engine???
mikeyb10supra
So if I plug this into my j-spec with walbro fuel pump, 2nd decat and stock boost im basically risking grenading my engine??? as ryan said, if you want any worthwhile gains, get yourself a proper piggy back ECU. Im sure it will be fine although I would have the thing re-mapped if it were me. I wouldn't take a chance using someone elses map
hadyn
Its a Top Secret Competizione ROM ECU if that rings any bells with anyone For the price I'm paying I'll take the slight gamble with the fuelling as im basically buying it as a SLD and FCD all in one, plug and play jobby
TLicense
That's a big gamble!

Tricky-Ricky
Bit of an unnecessary risk i would have thought, especially if you don't have a wideband fitted to check, either buy the right injectors etc, or fit an emanage.
Ian C
For the price I'm paying I'll take the slight gamble with the fuelling as im basically buying it as a SLD and FCD all in one, plug and play jobby If the ECU is minus £1000 or so then I'd say it's worth the risk as that'll soften the blow of buying a scond hand engine (providing you fit it yourself). I doubt, however, that someone is paying you a grand to take it off their hands so I'd have to say, with as much tact as I can muster, that's really quite a dense thing to do. If you consider an E-manage Ultimate will, with Ryan's help: Fuel the car correctly Give you a moderate power increase above 1bar of boost by sorting the fuelling Work as a speedo convertor, a speed limit defeater, and remove the need for a FCD in the first place (while still providing the function anyway) All for way less than the cost of another engine, your gamble with the Super Hyper Bongo ECU Tron III seems rather shortsighted to say the least. I wouldn't have one of those ECUs if it was free, they are mapped for a specific setup on a different fuel... -Ian

Nodalmighty
I have a little toy in development that will allow Link G3/G4 (and possible other ecu's) to run piggy back with an auto ecu and allow pre shift ignition retard and IGF simulation. I've run G3's and G4's on MKii & MKiii Auto Supra's without this facility but they make fuck all power, so it's not really a problem Oh! and I don't work at Rogue any more so my Posting name is a little misleading. This should open up the ecu choice for Auto owners. As MKIV Supras seem to be silly cheap these days I'm thinking of getting an n/a auto to use as a everyday tool so should have something to develop it on. Lyndon. Interesting post, surprised it hasn't elicited more responses. A shortage of affordable ecu's for the auto TT's and singles should make this a desirable product.
