The tensioner obviously provides a counter force on the belt after it has been put on, therefore, keeping it tensioned. You'll struggle to put the belt on without a tensioner to slacken. SimonB Posted December 30, 2008 Share Posted December 30, 2008 A is the tensioner dampener. It's there to smooth out changes to the tension of the belt from rapid changes of engine speed.
