At what point is a car considered "fast"?

I know I'm probably just asking for you to confuse / frustrate me even more but you are now saying that a car is only fast if it's over 600bhp, has fast acceleration and a high top speed?

So what's an acceptable top speed? What if a car is limited to a certain speed, 155mph for example, but has the ability to exceed this? What it a car is limited to ensure it's tyres don't pop or it's gearbox doesn't explode but still gets to 155mph in a very fast time?

Going back to acceleration... what do you consider to be good acceleration?

As Ian has pointed out I've already given a few examples of fast cars that don't fit into your 600bhp+ bracket, do you need some more?

Mate, everyone has their own perception to the word "FAST" and I've clearly told u about my perception quite clear, and as we are living in the free world you might not agree with me but you need to accept it :) either it's right or wrong for you but it's right for me.

I think your perception of the term 'clear' is somewhat skewed.

Ah so perhaps we can just say a fast car is anything faster than an NA? :innocent:

And of course we all know how fast BMW 318i's are so they are obviously included.

No I considered the NA fast, my bad English:tongue:. It was perhaps going from a NA to a single turbo was a different perception of fast!! If you get what I mean. Its not necessarily how fast a car is, just how quickly it can get there :)

Oh and BMWs are s**t anyway, in whatever context you mean ;)

I still have no idea what you are wittering on about I'm afraid.

I'd use the term 'quick' myself. A fast heavy car can have meagre torque but a lot of power and high top speed, a fast light car can have meagre power but a lot of torque and blinding acceleration. Neither are mutually exclusive, so I suppose I'd say a 'quick' car is one with a good balance of both power and torque with a decent power to weight ratio, good brakes, and good handling too. In those terms, the quickest car I've seen so far (on Top Gear I admit) is the Caterham 500.

I'm not in the same experience league as some on here, but I'm happy to describe my understanding of a 'fast' car as a 'quick' one.

Depends on the driver, the weight of the car, the transmission losses, the suspension and chassis.

There will be faster 400bhp cars than 600bhp cars. Thats the point of what we are saying mate. You just can't seem to grasp it.

Do you think because a car has 600bhp its faster than a car with 500? I know of a 500bhp diesel that has so much torque it can out accelerate just about anything on the road.

Saying anything above 600hp is fast and anything below isn't is just a ridiculous statement to come out with. Stating 600hp/ton is fast and less than that isn't would make much more sense. You come accross as someone who hasn't even had a sniff at a car with 600hp though, as you seem to know very little about the whole understanding of what the difference is between a powerful car and a fast car.

You have came out with probably the daftest statement of the year. It only makes you look daft as there are a lot of people who know what they are talking about on here. I'm not one of them, i 'only' have around 400hp afterall, but i like to think i have an understanding of it all. Anything i don't understand i can find out from here from people that do know.

I don't use it often, but obtuse is springing to mind. Its not that your stupid, you are so close minded its making you appear stupid.

Jay Leno's "Tank Car" has way more than 600HP... and isn't particularly fast.

I think there's a point somewhere that you keep missing.

To be fair...he has given up. For now.

Hillclimb... maybe that something that highlights all the ingredients of a fast car in one package?

Power, weight, handling, speed, acceleration, brakes and so on...

A Veyron went up Prescott in 46.39 (demo run, reckons it could have been faster), by contrast on the same day a 1970 Lotus Type 69 F3 car did a 45.22 (it usually runs in the 44s there).
