Bloody Elephant

Quoted me £908 for my renewal last week;. Phoned up yesterday to confirm everything and... £1566 they wanted from me for 10 month!!! Bastards. Just went online today and got another quote off them but this time with two more modifications... £1099.07 for 10 month and £1251.55 for 12!!! I phoned them up and told them I wanted to cancel. I explained that I was gonna cancel and just take out another policy anyway, saving myself nearly £250 and getting another 2 months on my insurance (even though when I phoned yesterday they told me they couldn't quote me on a 12 month policy). Luckily she sorted it straight away and blaimed the computers (bit of an arse for an internet only insurance company!)

Rant over... once again elephant have been the cheapest but it took some fighting

Mate you posted this at just the right time... I've just had to phone them AGAIN at national rate to get some sort of action on the stereo that I had nicked five weeks ago. They've done nothing at all since I made the claim except scratch their arses unless I've called them and actually told them what I want them to do.... not a bad way to earn £1400 a year off one person.

They really are w**kers of the highest order. The only thing they've done right so far is authorise the bodyshop to repair the car within a couple of days... that's it. Everything else has been a constant uphill struggle.

I phoned them two weeks ago to see when the stereo and alarm were going to be replaced....was told that they couldn't confirm there was actually an alarm fitted to the car. :conf: strange, since they hadn't actually asked me for the certificate I've got sitting here. They had been doing f**k all on this for 5 days.

Faxed them the certificate of installation last Thursday... phoned them this morning, apparantly it's still not been looked at. So that's another 4 days that they've sat there doing nothing.

Phoned Toad this morning (who are actually carrying out the replacement). They still don't know anything about the stereo or alarm because elephant haven't told them about it.

Right.... sorry for the :hijack: but needed to get that off my chest :D

*thinks of calm blue ocean*

I just hope you don't have to make a claim or you might find that fighting has to start all over again.

General comment - We hear nothing but bad compliants about Elephant yet people still go with them to save a hundred pounds if lucky. How expensive are your cars? Over £10k? Insure it with someone who at least knows that mk3's weren't produced in 94, and someone who realises that we take pride in our cars and want decent cover for them.

:Plug:

We chose Sky for the club insurance not because they were the cheapest but because they gave the best benefits and actually knew what they were talking about. They have also repeatedly gone out of their way to be helpfull on the phone and not treat you like a freak as soon as you mention a blow off valve. As a bonus I've only seen a couple of people saying they wont beat their current insurance quote.

For me it was a case of either being able to insure a supra or not. They were the only people who quoted me under £2,500 on an import. And I hadn't heard that many bad things about them when I took out the policy... a result of not being around here that long ;)

But a call to the club insurer is definately happening at the first opportunity  You guys are stars for setting it up! :p :thanks: :Plug:

I was with Elephant the first year I had my Supra, their service was awful including charging me an extra £500 because they had lost proof of my no claims!

I phoned them up last year and they offered me a good price, so I requested a copy of their quote in writing and they refused - the operator was aggressive and rude about it. I wrote to them, and a manager replied, offering me an apology and an even cheaper price.

I called Elephant and got the price down even further. I then went on to tell them I wouldn't insure my car with them for free - they were by far the worst company had had ever dealt with while I was with them and evidently nothing had changed.

Like you say, I can't see the point of insuring your pride and joy with a company with such an awful reputation. It baffles me. If their service is that bad to start off with, what do you think they are going to be like should you need to claim?

The service I have with my current insurer is impeccable, I get through straight away and the staff are always courteous.

Although I'm interested in getting a cheap qoute off Sky when the time comes, nobody has answered my post in the other thread regarding how well/efficient there cover is and how well they pay out. Has anyone got experience of this with them?

If not then could people be ploughing loads of business there way with the possibility of them having a service similar to Elephant?

My point is, we have no feedback on how well they pay out when things go wrong and I'm not interested in cheap insurance just for the sake of it.

I got a good deal on Elephant because I accidentally quoted the Tesco website as the lowest deal I'd got... then I phoned up Tesco to confirm and found they wanted a lot more as I had alloy wheels! I checked back with Elephant and the spec they'd stored for me had alloy wheels at now a much more reasonable price!

Just goes to show really lol!
