michael
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4370601.stm Confused..... "Witnesses said a man jumped on stage and fired a weapon during a set..." and: "two bullets, which they believe were fired towards the ceiling, were found at the south London venue" yet: "no arrests have been made" So there is a gunman on the loose and I presume none of the people who just might have been looking at the stage during the concert saw him? "More than 100 security staff had been working at the show and concert-goers passed through scanning and security checks at the entrance to the venue" Didn't they do well
DaveRex
perhaps they usually worked at the airports
Nick
Idiot, why shoot the ceiling ? Should have shot him, one less rap singer in the world...
Scoboblio
I must admit to having a bit of a laugh at this myself.... how the hell do you simply run up on stage with a gun, fire it twice, then run off And I can't get away with going 85 in a 70 zone
Digsy
...and another school shooting in the US... ...and a general election coming up. Digsy
Maybe Tony Blair paid the kid in the US to kill 9 of his fellow pupils, its all a conspiracy!!1111!1!! ohh noooos!!11 I feel like maybe I should explain myself before I get some flak for inferring that it's OK for people to go around letting guns off and killing their classmates. Of course its extremely tragic about the business in the US, and bloody scary about the rap concert thing. BUT, what the hell was a kid that age doing with several firearms in the first place? I know that America has next to fcuk all gun control, but come on. And of course, we had lots of legislation brought in after Dunblane to protect us from people letting off guns in public places (like schools, or maybe even rap concerts?) didn't we? Good to see that working, then. My point was that in the run up to an election, it is very likely that the parties will jump on extremely emotive news items like these to put forward "knee jerk" policies to win over hearts and minds (and votes) without stopping to think whether they actually have a hope in hell of actually working. Ian C
People imagined the gunfire and the police planted the bullets and casings. This has to be the case because legitimate ownership of handguns was banned years ago (just in time for a general election...), therefore all handgun crime stopped immediately and didn't in fact double since then. Yep, targetting the people who specifically absolutely must have a clean criminal record to own the gun in the first place sure cleaned up the streets. Anyone who believes otherwise must be a drooling gun toting commie redneck child killer. -Ian
Bobbeh
Of course you're always gonna get nut cases, same as driving etc, or owning a knife etc, all they're trying to do with a ban is limit the possibilies or tradegies occurring for something they dont see as owning a necessity to life in the UK. Sure it stinks if you're into guns.
terribleturner
Now there's been a man with a sword shot by police today. WTF is going on?? BBC News
michael
Odd that one, if he has a sword why shoot to kill? Surely a trained police gun type could have taken a leg or arm? Very odd story that one, will be interesting to hear exactly what happened but it screwed the roads up for ages!
Ian C
Because if you are at the point when deploying firearms is required, you do not piss about, I guess. Shooting to wound is a hollywoodism. Hitting a moving target is bad enough, when it's moving towards you wielding a bloody great sword, it's probably even more difficult. Especially when in the back of your mind there is a voice going "inquest... inquest... armchair experts who weren't here right now but are armed with perfect hindsight will analyse every last thing you do and rip into you for it..." What a shit job those coppers have. I note also the Police have arrested 26 over football violence. Speaking of banning unneccessary things that have the potential to cause tragedies occuring... Digsy
On a partially related subject.... ...well, related to my post, anyway. Right near the end. There really is nothing quite like using someone's grief to further your own political agenda. Do you really think they actually give a toss about the people involved though? Bobbeh
They arnt in a position to take every single case into account. They have to look at bigger pictures.
