hogmaw
Is it me or does anyone else find these a PITA. Big roundabouts are no problem, they are large scale and a simple no-brainer system. Smaller ones esp 3 way ones are a nuisance. I come across them sometimes with stationary traffic, because nobody is sure who to give way to. Then on other occasions someone who looks like they are going straight on swerves right, across traffic, (without indicating of course). Then sometimes I'm heading straight on over the thing, and somebody appears from a side road on my right so I have to stop and let them out. There are many times I have seen some drivers NOT stop because they didn't see someone come out, and a crash was narrowly avoided. OK rant over. Carry on everyone. ivan
Those little double figure 8 ones make me laugh every time I come across one. It stems from a remark Lin made once when we approached one from a side junction: "Oh look, it's on its side. You don't normally see them that way round." JohnnyW
Agree 100% hogmaw they usually chuck them in to replace a junction that was working perfectly anyway.

Carl_S
yes they can be dangerous, i really watch out on them, and slow right down, then drive positively. the french don't have them, but of course they regularly through red lights. if you think big round abouts are easy, do you remember the exception? - the magic round about in hemel hempstead, herts. Carl_S
yes lbm, i would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when they pushed that design though. one assumes it met with slight resistance.
Havard
People who do 180's on mini roundabouts.....WTF??
hogmaw
the magic round about in hemel hempstead, herts. Apparently there is some kind of 'roundabout appreciation society' in the UK which makes daytrips to roundabouts throughout the UK. [FACT] I am guessing that the Hemel Hemstead one is the highlight of their year, it really has to be seen to be believed.
Supra Size Me
I hat the t junction type ones where you're travelling along the main road which would form the top of the T and are about to go right into the side road not knowing if the person coming from the opposite way realises they have to give way to you. On some occasions I've even bottled it seeing them travelling too fast and have been right, they just sail through as if it were a regular junction

There have been countless accidents in the past 3 or 4 years since it was put in..... The other night there were three of us at the junction at the same time so we all had to give way to each other. I expect that I had right of way as I technically had no-one to right as it used to be a T junction on a main road and I was going straight on past the other car (if that makes sense...!!) H. Out of towners are obvious, going the wrong way and hesitating lots
Carl_S
hogmaw, interesting. would you be less suprised to hear that there are similar clubsfor ancient uk churches? ok there is no roundabout religion, but is the love of a roundabout passed from father to son? or is it the symbolism of the round about - going round and round and not going anywhere in particlar. some people go to extrodinary lengths to put flowers on rondabouts, and make them look beautiful. i would love to meet members or a meber of this club and understand what the drawn to these things are. fascination. crop circles wold make more sense as it seems more mistical,

JamesG
I have to do several three-way mini roundabouts every day, and after a while I got the hang of them. Carl is right, you have to drive positively and make your intentions clear. If there are vehicles waiting as I approach, I'll hang back to give them a chance to clear. If I get to the roundabout first (even by a tiny bit), then I won't hesitate and will go straight away. After following these rules, in the unlikely event of three-way deadlock, then fastest car goes first
Swampy442
Theres one just outside Southend, well a combination of 4 slightly larger than mini but smaller than normal, roundabouts that are a lane changing nightmare
