gordy07
There was a squeeling sound coming off my car when i was driving about town. I doesnt happen on idle but in between 2-3k RPM its almost like a drive belt or fan belt sound. I noticed it the other night when i had heaters, lights and heated screen on so i thought it was just because it was under so much load. But today i had nothing on and its still doing it:( Any ideas? Jamesy W
Perhaps a dodgy turbo? Maybe a belt tensioner or something along those lines.

Dnk
Check the power steering fluid, if thats low it can make the pump squeel Edited December 23, 2008 by Dnk (see edit history)
gordy07
The belt was changed about 10k miles ago(not by me)and this noise has just started. Is there a way to check if its tight enough?

Dnk
Could also be as said the tensioner, if you pop the bonnet it and run the engine it should be quite obvious if its the aux belt squeeling
mike_mcevoy
I've just had that, had to replace the Aux belt and crank pulley as it was starting to come apart.

Chrisbeast
I had this on start up but went away after about 5-10 mins. I got some Silicone spray from Halfords and sprayed the belt whilst its was running. Noise has now gone completely! Take care not to loose your hand in the fan though. Id rather check why its making the noise as theres got to be a reason.
mike_mcevoy
God that sounds expensive, although the belt is only 10k old It wasnt too bad actually, got the expensive bits from Nic and got everthing replaced in one go, my belts looked fine to be honest but had both the timing and aux belts changed at the same time as it all has to come off anyway. Have a search on here for squealing and startup and you should find a lot (well I did anyway) I had the same thing when it got warm it quietened down, I wouldnt ignore it or hide it with silicone spray as it will get expensive.... Its worth checking this thread to check your crank pulley, hopefully it isnt that. Crank Pulley also this one Edited December 23, 2008 by mike_mcevoy (see edit history)
