Sizing up milling cutters?

Bridgeport Interact would be my choice, very easy to use and program. They did a small guide on basic operation called the pilot i think which really helps with basic programing.

If you get heidenhain control i'll happily pop up and go through it with you.

Whatever you get second hand make sure you get a few tool holders with it along with various milling and drilling collets

Thanks for the ongoing discussion. I have been very tempted to get a basic CNC capable mill for a while, I like the ability to do things like drilling disc bells and lightening heavy bits of material easily, am I mad, not yet being proficient on a manual machine?

You cant beat a small cnc mill for drilling multiple holes easily and accurately.

The hardest part for a beginner will be getting your spindle speeds and feeds right.
