lockys96
my car is under ongoing surgery. I will be looking at a new brake setup, whether it is bespoke or not. (the car will be track only car) the idea is to order off the shelf AP-Racing 330mm 4pot front kit direct though AP circa 2k, but my question lies with the rear setup. How easy is it to get an AP caliper for the rear which incorparates a handbrake feature, with ap discs? who can machine a rear bracket for me? do AP-Racing make any off the shelf calipers with e-brake? would i best opt for 2pot rear? (standard mr2 runs tiny 2pot front and 1pot rear)/ so many questions i know

TLicense
Just give AP a call and discuss with them what you want and they'll sort you right out.

lockys96
sean at AP-Racing says they have nothing which will fit the rear.????? what caliper does any of the supra's run, or any other car for that matter which had or uses a handbrake function? if they dont make anything, then i dont quite understand how you keep a stock handbrake function
johnny g
There's got to be something mate. HiSpec do rear kits, so there's something out there.
lockys96
but, like kits i.e jamie-p brembo rear 4pots, does the caliper itself have a handbrake feature, or is this done some other way. how hard can it be to fab some adapters. ive thought about perhaps picking up some brembo stock caliper setup from a evo or impreza and making brackets with some sort of floating caliper. lockys96
just what quality is hi spec though?
RobSheffield
You do realise that the Supra handbrake is a drum brake and not on the caliper per se.
lockys96
is it drum on a mr2? i seem to think its on part of the caliper
RobSheffield
Im pretty sure you are right Si, that is possibly why they cant supply. What is the verdict on IMOC?
lockys96
it sucks on there, big time. looks like hispec is my only way forward, as they sell caliper with handbrake function. ive not heard the best words about the products
Wez
HiSpec They used my car many moons ago to measure up for the brake kits, I had the first seperate bell and rotor kit, not floating mind just bolted. Warped after one trackday so I gave them away.
lockys96
exactly, i uderstand hydraulic handbrakes are not road legal unless they can click into place with one hand function? need to do some searching
lockys96
here is a mr2 with brembo 4pot rears and brembo 6pot fronts. no idea how this works, cabin shot shows no handbrake. surely you can rely on something like line lock for a parking brake? rear: front: no handbrake no details on above either
JamieP
surely you can rely on something like line lock for a parking brake? Wont pass an mot like that.
lockys96
yeh, not very safe. why couldnt toyota design same handbrake setup as supra,
JamieP
There is ways around everything, im sure ive seen tiny handbrake calipers that sit opposite to the brake calipers berfore. EDIT, willwood list a handbrake caliper as will many others im sure. http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=562_588 Edited December 23, 2008 by JamieP (see edit history)
lockys96
wilwood calipers like £100? seems cheap, cw doesnt rate them. mr2 parts suck
lockys96
perhaps i should give brake offset brackets a go, and run some larger 2-piece vented discs front and rear, anyone fab some brackets? i like these, but with yen exchange its £1050 before shipping, so £1500 to door just for a rear kit or front. http://www.border-racing.com/brake_02.jpg
michael
As Jamie says Wilwood might be able to sort you out with a handbrake even if you don't go with their brakes. I don't have a decent pic but the Wilwood option gives you a 50p-sized handbrake that sits at the top of the disc and operates as a separate calliper, you can just make it out on this pic: http://www.megaboost.co.uk/andy/IMG_2001.JPG The brakes on that car always seemed excellent BTW but I'm not sure it ever saw track use other than TOTB, it certainly got some stick on the road though.
