Its just started - occasionally when I use reverse I get a clunk/vibration from the back end, however, if i drive forwards it fine, and its deffo not the gearbox
edge
Does it do it when selecting first?
heckler
Does it do it when selecting first? its always been a bit clunky (6 speed) but you can actually feel the clunk/vibration when you reverse, like i said, drive forwards its fine. Chris Wilson
More description please, I would say it may not be hub bearings. Diffs are normally bullet proof unless James P is driving One for you, are the stock LED's in the dash removable easily? Got a car here where the heater knobs need a push sometimes to get the lights on, and the A/C button LED doesn't light at all. Cheers. Ok, if i drive forwards in any gear, no noise - works as advertised. come to a stop, engage reverse, clutch out and get a big clunk when moving backwards only, however if i put the clutch in or put into neutral while moving backwards, noise goes away. And as i discovered today, doesnt always do it! Yes, LED are quite easy to remove/replace - http://www.internetwork.org.uk/led/led.htm no idea where you could get replacements from, but more likely to be a dry joint. Dan8
mine does this & sometimes when i set of i get a vibration which judders side to side from the box just behind the centre console thought it might be the donut mines a non turbo with limited slip where can you get them from & are they hard to fit or is it a full shaft job
Chris Wilson
I don't know if it's even possible on the MKIV, but if someone was daft enough to fit the centre bearing upside down, so the prop had an angle in the mid joint, I am sure it wouldn't like it, and it would cause a judder. the centre bearing SHOULD be atop the mounting, up in the tunnel, not lower down. Next time I do a clutch I'll see if it's even possible to fit it upside down, it may just be so....
Dan8
i doubt is the wrong way i just thought it might be worn its similar to clutch judder after a thrashing but not if that makes sense
SilverSoop
Hmm...well I hope this is normal but when I engage reverse from a stop with the clutch in...I get a CLUNK noise from the back of the car but could be coming from the gearbox... Is this normal??
