Branners
It is a heavy car though, no matter which way you look at it. The handling is not going to be as sharp as a mkiv as they built the mkiv for a totally different audience and the added weight will do nothing for the handling either. I had 2 mkiiis and 3 mkivs, and the mkivs have all been better for me.
Guest dangerousandy
I have a GA70 2.0 GT Twin-Turbo Aerotop manual MKIII Supra that I am currently doing up!! I love both of my Supra's (when they are working!!) http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=170922&highlight=latest+project+car
JamieP
Ive had a NA and a turbo mkiii and enjoyed both of them (long time ago now) one good thing with them is there ain't to many bodykits available for them so they have not been chaved up like so many mkiv's have. here's my MKIII Nice car that. Willson
I absolutely love the mkiii shape. What's the deal with the "wide bodys" that I see advertised?
Guest dangerousandy
I absolutely love the mkiii shape. What's the deal with the "wide bodys" that I see advertised? Some of the J-spec/US Spec Supra Mk3's have wider wings/rear 1/4 panels like the ST185 GT-Four Celica. I have a copy of the book "Celica & Supra - The book of Toyota's Sports Coupes" By Brian Long, and it has loads of information on every model of Celica and Supra that Toyota have made, plus pictures of them all etc. Well worth getting a copy IMHO... dangerous brain
Pop up headlights, whats not to like??? Manual aerotop?? Easy enough 350 BHP BPU with for my feelings a quicker spool up and a better town driving experience than a MK4. It also "feels" a bit narrower so makes progression in traffic easier. Fun factor per quids my 2.5 TT 1JZ aerotop mk3 easily hits top marks. I didn't like the flashy dashy in mine but TDR's proper dials one looked the bollox. Theres some massive singled up MK3's coming out of Japan for peanuts as well.
Guest CoolsBlue
so I take it you've driven a load of mkiii's and mkiv's then? and have a basis to compare these cars? do i need to? if mk3supe was such a legend, would the mkiv evolved? just by looking between the mkiv and mkiii, which says it all? i went to this car show once, all the mkiii owners were old gits trying to look cool with old grannies sat next to them, i hate to say that but how can you even say the mkiii is something to come close to being as good and as good looking as our mkiv's? there's a mkiii forum...remember being told that when i joined looking for a mkiv. Willson
So can you buy a decent mkiii without rust or impending failures for reasonable money? CoolsBlue, you have to remember that the mk3 is an older car and will probably appeal to older people than yourself, people that aspired to have them when they were in their youth. I love the look of loads of sports coupes from the late 80s, corvettes, firebirds, silvias, celicas, r32 skylines, etc.
Todd
all the mkiii owners were old gits trying to look cool with old grannies sat next to them So they were all in their 60s then, wow, would have loved to have seen that

Ahhh I get it, you bought a mkiv for the status symbol, how can you even say the mkiii is something to come close to being as good as the mkiv well I've had 3 mkiv's over the last 5 years and driven over 20 others if not more, I've also driven almost every popular jap import performance car there is and owned my mkiii for 9/10 months now so I know whats a good car or not, and this definately is one. Anything that maybe lacking, suspension, brakes etc can be upgraded but the driving experience is much more involved and more fun which important to me. And looks are a matter of opinion anyway, I love both and 90% of the time I prefer the MKIV but I think the MK3 is massivly underrated and I love that, it's a real underdog which appeals to me massivly. Tom
So can you buy a decent mkiii without rust or impending failures for reasonable money? yes just get the import, and you could go for the lighter weight 2.5r, reacaro interior and some other nice touches which I can't remember I promise you wont be dissapointed I was really REALLY suprised when I first drove my one, I couldnt beleive how nice it is to drive CoolsBlue, you have to remember that the mk3 is an older car and will probably appeal to older people than yourself, people that aspired to have them when they were in their youth. I'm 25 but true 80's & 90's cars appeal to me most
Tom
I absolutely love the mkiii shape. What's the deal with the "wide bodys" that I see advertised? I think all the UK's were widebodys, the only narrow body's came from japan with the 2.0tt and weighed around 1380kg

supraspeed
Ok as i might be selling my mk4 soon ive been looking at hundreds of other cars with simular power but after long and agonising phone calls to ins companies ive come to conclude they dont like me...... greenlight even barred me after i submitted 3 quotes claiming i "spammed" their company and refuse to insure me full stop...annoyingly enough being the best quotes by far as well. Anyway after crossing off, imprezas skyline gtr's rx7's cosworths i started looking at mk3 supras....more in my price range as well to buy. Just wondering how reliable they are and easily tuned-want something quick. also my mate used to have one about 10 years ago and was always complaining about the traction. can rltc be used on these cars? i'm no mechanic so want something that isn't going to explode.... Ewen
I had a D reg dark met blue MkIII in '89. Had no problems with it over 30k miles other than crashing it. I got an H reg white one (facelift) in the late '90s. Again no problems with it whatsoever. Bought it for the best part of £7k, px'ed it for my first MkIV for £1200 . I didnt care about the chest wig chariot image, I really liked them.
Guest overdrive
Yeah he posts on sxoc and mkiiisupra.net - he's gayed it up with naff wheels and stickers IMO Brian. In my defense... http://file048a.bebo.com/2/large/2009/04/16/12/1297287959a10614045826l.jpg I couldnt recommend a mk3 enough. Have wanted a decent one for years, and the one i have is immaculate. There are plenty of pups out there, but they are cracking cars if you find a good one. They are a different car from the mk4 though, and i wouldnt say comparing the 2 is fair. They are down to personal preference really...

RobSheffield
I would love a black Mk3, preferably the GT/twin turbo version.
HJM
Ian - stop mucking about and buy a TT (yes you have to put your hand in your pocket a bit more). I know you want one H
tDR
In my defense... What were you thinking with the daft stickers on the front though! The wheels I'll give you don't look bad but they don't suit the car IMO I always wanted to put bronze Volk TE37's on it but never got around to it You also wanna do something about that brick of a numberplate Todd uglied the front end up with... Have to agree the mk3 is a different car to drive and a well sorted JZA70 is a great car in it's own right.
