chris2o2
What a complete waste of time the nhs are . About 4 months ago i went to my Doctors with a lump on my neck - just below my left ear, it wasnt huge but you know what its like nowadays with lumps anywhere . He looked it it and told me it was only a cyst and nothing to worry about , a small procedure would be needed to have it removed - Local anaesthetic and small cut (Think malteser size lump!!) Im quite paranoid about it , its quite obvious and has grown since then. So he arranged an appointment at my local hospital to have the operation done , i received a letter a few weeks later to go up on the 18th December at 11 - now this suited me perfect , a few weeks recovery over Christmas and new year ! Especially as my work (Glasgow feckin airport) never close's and i was due in on the 25th for a 1-9 shift Got up there today , wait about for ten/twenty mins or so until the doctor calls me in and explains its a simple and easy procedure , shouldnt take more than 10mins . Ok i said lets go for it ! Nope....i have to wait another few months , go to another hospital which isnt exactly local and have it done there WHY ?? Why waste my time going up the hospital today , my doctor has already seen it and knows what needs done?! Dont they trust my Doctor?? So i had taken today off work , my Dad had taken today off work to drive me up and back and all for about 30secs of crap everyone already knew. Ok i know there are procedures and i suppose it isnt so much a rant at the NHS but the last few weeks i was dead chuffed to be off Christmas and new year for once and now it looks like i'll be stuck in work Maybe i shouldnt make presumptions..... Who the hell flys on christmas day anyway....barstewards. *Rant over*
Guigsy
that sucks. Remeber... for a lot of people 25th of december is just another day in the calendar. My girlfriend and family come from orlando and all work for Seaworld/Disney. They always work on xmas day. Its one of the busyest times of year. When they said that i couldnt believe someone would go to Disney on christmas day!
Animal
Yeah, same thing happened to me last year, I had one on the top of my head. Saw my GP, got a referral to the hospital, saw the doctor/surgeon there, got another appointment to come back to get it removed. If it's any consolation, it is a quick and easy procedure, so nowt to worry about.
GazB
So who are you pi**ed off with the NHS, Glasgow Airport or people that want to save money and fly on Christmas day
supra_aero
Didn't you claim the day off work as a sick day? Same with your dad - or compassionate leave or whatever its called

GazB
Everyone i think !! Possibly myself as well for thinking it would be so easy. Ha! Forgot to include you on the list Cheer up it could have been something serious that was wrong with you then you would of had a good 'single' reason to moan, put away the hum bugs and think all those people on christmas day flights, they are the sadist as it's their choice to fly, your at work because you have to keep the supra on the road
jamesmark
my doctor has already seen it and knows what needs done?! Dont they trust my Doctor?? Personally I do not think that is bad mate, it's not ideal but whether it is a small lump or a heart op and you get reffered they are not just going to dive right in without assessing it first. Sure your doctor has seen it but the actual doctor that is to do it has not and to cover his back he will assess it first. Plus the neck is a sensitive area of the body. Your right of course , im just in a bugger of a mood today now and wanted to vent my frustration somewhere The NHS do a good job with what they have to be honest - i just dont want to work over Christmas
Scott
Yeah that seems like the standard operating proceedure. I went in to have a mole removed, the day i thought i was going in to get it lopped off turned out to be the day i was getting an assessment. I had already told my work i would be off for the week and everything. That meant that when i actually got it taken off i had to go back in lol.... oops. garetheves
It really pisses me off when people rant about the NHS, I work in the NHS and yes i admit its far from ideal but believe me a fully private health service where only the ones who can afford it get treatment isnt ideal either. Its not the entire NHS to blame, maybe youve got an issue with that particular doctor but for your information there are plenty of services and staff in the NHS that work our collective balls off for little to no reward. All you ever read about in the press is the bad points not the good points. If you want someone to blame, blame all the imigration in this country sapping the already sparce resourses we have to work with, blame the tax dodgers and benefit bums and most of all blame the government for allowing the above to continue. superpaulwilson
As an NHS worker myself, I find your rant very funny. The bit where you say "Dont they trust my Doctor??" I presume you mean your GP and the answer is NO, no consultant/doctor/nurse in the country trusts a GP because they have the collective knowledge of a grape, taking the shortest training to get to the easy high pay job. The doc who will have examined you will simply be checking that you are not a waste of NHS time and money
Rob
Exactly what happened to me Chris. I went to the GP to ask about having my big toenail removed and the nail bed killed. GP says they do normal removals "in-house" but to have the bed killed requires a Day Surgery appointment for a Zadek Procedure. He writes to hospital and later I get a letter for an appointment. I see the surgeon who agrees with everything the GP said. I then get an appointment for what I think is the surgery, so I go along prepared, but no, its a meeting with another consultant who runs the Day Surgery, and guess what?...he agrees the nail needs removing and the bed killing, I KNOW THAT, I ASKED FOR IT TO BE DONE!!! I then go for a pre-surgery assessment, and being diabetic they start considering having me in a ward for the day before to "stabilise" me. Eventually, when I say I'm not going to do it if I have to stay in, they agree to do it in the Day Surgery. I get the appointment, I go in, wait there for hours which is normal, go into surgery, they lay me down so I can't see whats happening. It hurts like fark but all goes well. I go home. A few days later I go to GP for a dressing change. The practice nurse removes the bandages carefully and...and...no incisions, no acid killing...the surgeon had only removed the nail and not done the Zadek Procedure. WTF???!!!! 4 months wasted, and now its growing back.
