frost?

Recommended Posts

Howdy all, my supra has been out of the garage for about 12 days now so has experienced all that frosty weather. So today i thought i'd give it a drive, but the battery was flat. so charged her up (took an hour) and went on my way...UNTIL the engine management light comes up and the car turns into a machine gun (well certainly sounded like it) it cleared after about 2 mins then came back on again, then cleared the came back on (an so on for 5 miles)! the car wouldnt accelerate at all it was just hesitating. my question is could it be the frost has got into the coil packs and making it misfire? or would it be something to do with the battery going flat? any help would be great.

If you`ve got antifreeze in your cooling system the frost won`t be your problem, more likely to do with having a flat battery and your ecu relearning, you shouldn`t be getting the red triangle on though unless there is another problem, you need to check for fault codes.

I had assumed you would have already checked / changed the coil pack plastic terminal clips. They are now a basic service item on the MKIV. If they are loose, suspect, or broken, change the lot. If you are lucky it may fix it :) A search should come up with the part number, I think Paul Whiffin stocks them, or any Toyota dealer will get them.

They were changed about 5 months ago due to a miss fire but now with the car being left out in the frosty weather they may have got some damp in them.

Right renewed the batt as it was duff, pulled off connectors and refitted it seemed to clear the prob for about 5 mins then came back on. The car seems like it only running on 3 or 4 cylinders or something, it shakes badely when on tickover and absolutey stinks of fuel! next step to replace ignition amp you say? would this really make the car miss so badely?

cheers

plugs/coils packs and clips were changed 2k miles ago. This has only happened since the battery went flat and it was left out in the frost :(

Chris i'l go for that mate cheers

Mikey the cars starts up like it and then can clear for 2 mins then comes back again.

very very annoying!

thought you traced the fault with the error codes did you switch them or is there a member near by that would let you try

I did mate its store error code 14...... the map sensor pipe is all in tact. whether the sensor itself is i dont know.

ADD: small hijack for my own info, but what did you use to charge the battery within an hour? Was it a jump from another car, or one of those mains-powered battery boosters? (I ask because I may be in the same position myself with a flat battery, but thought that the boosters needed 12 hours ish to do anything)
