How do you tell if a diff on a na manual is open or not?

My 95 na manual has an open diff. I want to buy a second hand lsd from a na. Does anyone know if there is a way of telling the difference so i don't get sold an open type. If it is off the car I might not be able to check the vin.

Thank you.

I take it that if I get an lsd from a na manual it is just a bolt on job.

Yes, any diff apart from those from a 6spd will be a direct drop-in job. It's best to keep to one from an NA as it'll have the same ratio.

If the previous owner of the new diff knows their axle code it should have a "b" as the final letter on the VIN.
