DARETT
Is a 4" straight through system a better system to opt for when going single turbo route? Power aim will be around 600. Would 3" system suffice?.. Also what systems are you guys using, any specific recommendations?. I'm not bothered about sound or looks, just want the best system performance wise... Thanks! tooquicktostop
3" will be fine I have a Veilside Ti exhaust, very light and nice sound
ajazyasin
from what i have read, 4" systems are more for extreme hp drag cars.
JamieP
No science behind it but ive had both and prefer the 4", you can hear the turbo whistling from tick over with a 4" and if the yanks are to be believed they help with spool, id like to see somebody do an independent test on that though. michel lane
4 inch sounds better, unfortunately my neighbours heat me for it .
Havard
4 inch sounds better, unfortunately my neighbours heat me for it . Sounds like a good deal if they keep you warm.... I take it that a 4" system is significantly louder than a 3". If I go TT I was planning on having a SS straight through system. H.

paul mac
there are plenty of peeps on here running more than 600hp on a 3" system, for me they are the best compromise for sound and power, i have had a few exhausts now and the BL 4" stands out as absolutely awefull, realistically its a full on drag system, the noise genuinly hurts my ears and despite what people say IMO it sounds s**t, i also found issues with low down torque as well, Paul W obviously likes his 4" but dont forget decent 4" silencer boxs will cost you the price of a normal system

JamieP
It all depends on what silencers you have, the 3"system on my red car is loads louder than the 4"hks ti i have now, ask anyone thats been in them.
Paul Whiffin
105dB? Barely a whisper! lol It used to be 128db with the Veilside Ti on there!

I will be taking some in the new year at some point, I'll probably sell this one as I want to get a titanium system made up, need to shed some weight! I can get a system made for you if needed.... paul mac
i know this is dragging a little off topic but there really isnt anything complicated about making your own exhaust, originally i was going to make my own copying the Boostlogic look at the pic and see how complex it is, it has one bend and two angle cuts , i got all the tube, a bend and a Borla XR1 silencer (was getting another if necesary)http://www.borla.com/products/product_multi_detail.aspx?cat=5&type=72&desc=XR-1%26reg%3b+Racing+Exhaust|XR-1%26reg%3b+Sportsman+Racing+Mufflers all the flanges are available for about £30 all i needed was a backbox, in the end my eye was turned by a Greddy Titanium for £500 so i didnt bother but the Borla silencer is going on the Greddy as i cant live with the noise Edited December 16, 2008 by paul mac (see edit history)

Or do you know somewhere that sells titanium exhaust boxes?
paul mac
How are you going to attached a stainless box to a titanium system? Or do you know somewhere that sells titanium exhaust boxes? i have some rather nice band clamps, a bit crude and some may say hacking up a Greddy titanium is sacreledge, but the noise has taken some of the pleasure out of driving the car so its out with the hack saw , the Borla silencer cost £102 + vat , so even with the stainless silencer the complete system will still be about half the weight of my old Dragger, i didn't even try looking for titanium silencers (if they exist) as i cant justify the weight versus money equation
jevansio
I too removed the silencer from my HKS Ti and replaced it with a custom silencer, dropped the sound from 107db to 101db I think (although the muppets at TOTB still managed to measure it at 111db). I still have the titanium silencer sat here, I don't really wanna get rid of it though as I might bolt it back on if I'm feeling like a Chav
DARETT
105db, is pretty good going with that system. At SSO last year we just crawled through the pro section with 112db with a 3' Nur Spec system, although it was on a Subaru... What's the prices on the HKS ti system? Whifbitz Turbo back system seems a good price at £750 plus vat, I guess that would include the Decat downpipes as well, has anyone got a sound clip or video of this?... Paul drop me a mail when you want rid of the system

Going to be doing a 3" single and twin box system along with a 4" to. Hoping to release them towards the end of January.

Nic
Something else to consider is ground clearance, especially if it uses V-band flanges. I had a 4" down-pipe and mid-pipe on mine and with the suspension only slightly lower than stock the mid-pipe would scrape on speed bumps.
