Why are you discounting the tyres?

GavinL
I would do the following before assuming something mechanical. 1. Confirm the tyres pressures are correct. Supra's do get a bit unsettled with unequal pressures. 2. Put a 100 miles on the tyres just to get them scrubbed. 3. Full four wheel computer alignment using the specs on http://www.mkiv.com

AJI
Tyre pressures for the rear tend to be 32-38psi depending on what you've got your fronts at to keep a good balance. I find that fronts need to be a bit higher pressure than rears but that's purely a personal preference to give a good feel through corners. -Have you checked your wheel nuts are tight? -Have you drastically decreased weight in your Supra? -You haven't ran over some thing big or knocked your suspension recently? All the above could have an effect on the rear grip of your car. If you've just got new tyres fitted then they will take about 10-20 miles before the 'protective varnish' layer is worn off. When tyres come out of the mould they have a layer of varnish like a wax type that is embedded into about a millimeter of the tread. Only takes a few wheels spins to get rid of it.
