Heater system / clicking

I have a couple of issues..

Firstly, I'm not getting anything above lukewarm air from the heater. I've done a complete fluid/coolant flush (twice, first one wasn't intentional ;)), checked for water in the pipes above the engine, they also get nice and toasty at all points, and run the car on a steep hill with the radiator cap off. What else can I try? I need the ability to defrost my windows before next month!

Secondly there is a clicking noise coming from the passenger footwell when the heater system is running. I presume this is a fan or somesuch on its way out? I'm not sure how worried I should be about this, as it's still doing it's job - it is very annoying though.

I'm also looking for alternatives to the huge box currently behind my dash. I'm going to remove the aircon, but the heater setup is still ridiculously big and heavy - how hard would it be to get a customised setup with a smaller matrix which is primarily intended for defrosting/demisting the front window? This is primarily a track/fun car so having the ability to blow warm air at my feet isn't really a concern!

Thanks in advance. ;)
