Benyon
I have done a search and things point to a sticking caliper however im not that technical so im gonna ask for your opinions. On my way to work this dinner i noticed my car (auto) was decelerating alot quicker than normal, also at the same time the brake pedal went very hard to press, Then my car slows down almost to a stop so i quickly put it in 1st(L) and manage to crawl to work. In drive it just slows down. Im at work now so im gonna need to get it home I am a member of the AA so i could just ring them. Any input will help. Mike
It sounds like your caliper is has binded or something? I would pull the wheels off and check the pads and calipers all round.. did it smell or anything when you came to a stop?
Benyon
Kinda smelt somthing but i have a cold and cant evan smell my own farts, I have just rang the AA they should be hear in 80 minutes, Because im in work i dont have the time to take the wheels of myself but i will try and get the AA guy to check for me. What am I checking for on the pads/calipers?
Guest Garfy
take it for a short drive, then put your hand near each wheel, if one is noticably hotter than the rest then you have a sticky caliper

Mike
What am I checking for on the pads/calipers? As above - that the calipers are not stuck together, and that you still have some brake pads in there. I'd be surprised if it was anything to do with your autobox - but that said, you never know... Let us know what the AA say
w41k3r
Ive had the same problem recently so hav`nt been using the car as much as i`d like, mine does exactly the same thing if i go to 60mph it will decelerate to 25mph in about 5 seconds. When i looked at my rear left disk it had 2 pad marks on it so i assume its that one causing the problem, my problem is intermittent sometimes it will do it other days it wont. Benyon
I have been to busy at work to get back to you guys, When the AA guy got here my car was fine no problems just my luck, Anyway he checked alot of things and they are all fine i.e. servo, pads, calipers. If a caliper was sticking then my car would pull to one side he said, the only two things it can be (apparently) is the fluid needs changing as it is time for a service I usually service my cars just after xmas for some reason I have always done that. I have already bought my servicing kit so I can do the fluid change this weekend. The other thing it could be is I noticed my brake reservoir cap was broke and not on tight, Anyone know where i could get one of these, I would goto toyota but I have been waiting 3 weeks for them to get me a dash bulb. Chris Wilson
The master cylinder bleed hole was obstructed, either the pedal pushrod is adjusted wrongly, or the cylinder and / or brake fluid is contaminated or faulty. If you haven't fiddled with the pushrod I'd fit a new brake master cylinder and flush the system and fill with fresh fluid.

Jurgen-Jm-Imports
try a test for me remove your ABS 30amp fuse in engine bay.. see if that works - i bet it sorts it out am sure its a wheel speed sensor thats buggered.. if it is then drive it without fuse till you can fix it or buy the sensors.. many cars drive without ABS...(so dont be scared by removing fuse) some cars have abs systems removed too..) your just using all fashioned brake stlyes but it will help you out till you buy your sensors,,
Benyon
Thats a good peace of advice, I went and had my brakes bled today, Hopefully that will have sorted it but if it does it again I can try the fuse trick. Thanks.
AlanM
Don't see the logic in bleeding the brakes to help your current problem?
madwoody1
only that he might of cooked the brake fluid
Benyon
Just thought I would write this for anyone doing a search who has this same problem, Since getting my brakes bled almost a month ago I have not had the problem since, My mechanic used a vacume to bled the brakes and he cleaned out the the master cyl & servo. So if you have this problem and you are about to get the brakes bled make sure they clear the master cylinder and brake servo because I had been told normally when you get the brakes bled they dont clean out the master cyl & servo they just do a basic bleed, I suppose its were you take it I have always used this mechanic hes good with all imports.
