adnanshah247
im so tempted to go and sledge hammer the hell out of that hump. i did some rough measurements today before i came into work and im sure that this hump is over the limit. just by looking at it, its bloody huge! benkei
You get fined for damage your car makes on the roads, but what about damage the road does to your car?! How about if you had a ferrari, or lambo which is low as standard? I'm sure exceptions should be made. If you have a low car, then I don't see why the council hass to make your life uncomfortable?! Speed humps are a ridiculous idea! All the do is annoy people and damage cars. Hope you get this sorted soon mate!

JustGav
bud i totally agree, my sisters corolla, totally unmodified has got scrapes underneath from humps and thats meant to be a proper normal family car! Not the same I know, but it makes me remember my neighbour when he goes out with his gf and mates. 5 up in fiat ciquento thingie, and that does scrape as well but for entirely different reasons
Holden1989
How on earth?! it was one off these, god knows how they did it but im hoping they'l take the other three
NatsupraTT
Where there is speed bumps there is meant to be warnings so if i was you id take a pic of the begining of the road/street/estate to show there were no warning signs before they put them up then you cant prove there wasnt any. benkei
bud i totally agree, my sisters corolla, totally unmodified has got scrapes underneath from humps and thats meant to be a proper normal family car! My mate lives down a road with 4 big speed humps down it, the first one at the top of the road has CHUMKS MISSING from it where cars have repeatedly scraped over it!! The street leading to that street has 3 big speed humps and bollards to slow down traffic! My '2 scrapes on every one of them, even if I take them as slow as 5mph, which is just ridiculous! All the do is put extra wear and tear on our suspension and under-car! One of my friends had a Civic Jordan like me, and he wen't over a sheet of metal, you know the ones used to cover large holes in the road by roadworks and such. Well the metal sheet wasn't layed down flat, the edge of it caught his exhaust - ripping it from the car!! This in turn caused damage to the fuel tank, which caught fire!! He and his 3 passengers had to litterally scramble out of the car as it went up in flames! The car was a burnt out shell in a matter of minutes! He was completely gutted! Understandably! A lowered car full of passengers would be quite low indeed! You need to watch what you're driving over!!
marc_p
Well my Supra is on standard suspension and with 19's so it will sit higher than standard and the exhaust scrapes on most of the speedhumps around harrogate, it's just rediculous how big speedhumps are getting. Gazboy
what can i say, icey roads, dark, no street lighting didnt at all see a speed hump until bang x 3 . all the mechanical stuff survived but the body took a pounding. i dont think i was doing any more than 20mph but it was a newly put down hump, one of those big brickey type ones. front bumper split and literally tore off, left side, side skert took a small knock but filler fixed that hardly noticeable and the rear bumper took a hit as well cracking the entire left side. front wings were joined to the bumper so a lot of fibre class cracked on the wings but luckily no dents! have been busy over the weekend repairing the damage but looks like i have a long way to go! seriously dont have the time at all and its freezing out there!!! its been said time and time again, guys & gals be careful out there. What happened to the rest of the car? Sorry to see that damage, but what is the pleasure in owning a road car so low that speed bumps become an issue? I even have customers who have to make long winded detours to get their cars to their own houses from their workplace. It'd drive me nuts, if a car won't go over any normal speed bumps at at least 20 MPH without damage it'd be a none starter for me. How much grief you guys take for the "low" look amazes me. There is no way I'd take mine at 20mph, stock ride hight & suspension and even when I had UK17's there was no way I'd entertain a 20mph speed hump. Actually i don't like doing it in my Getz. Guest damelza
Pet hate. Really winds me up. Defo take it to them and go through their complaints proceedure with a view to claiming. Make sure you give them notice so they can't say you never informed them. Get a response in writing to proove they know about it. The roads are pants where we are. Got them on every street. Grrrr
snake
Try and measure how high the speed hump is [without getting run over]and find out what the legal limit is.I thought it was 100mm?
Nic
Well my Supra is on standard suspension and with 19's so it will sit higher than standard It shouldn't sit higher with bigger diameter wheels, the tyres should be lower profile so the rolling radius is the same. marc_p
It shouldn't sit higher with bigger diameter wheels, the tyres should be lower profile so the rolling radius is the same. I put the space saver up against them(which I assume is the same rolling radius as the standard wheel) and it was ever so slighlty smaller than the 19. adnanshah247
News update guys, spoke to a complete and utter a$$wipe today over the phone. He said that the humps are put in such a way to force drivers to reduce their speed and if i had 'sustained damage' its clearly all my fault and that i 'had to have had broken the speed limit'. Then that total tw@t said that its very highly unlikely for the council to do anything about it (damage to my car) and that if i wish to take it further present something in writing which he again said you may not even get a reply. Are all councils like this?! Then what really pi$$ed me off was he said 'if you had a sensible car you may not have had this problem'. Now am i the only one here who wants to break his legs? benkei
I'd put in a complaint about him too. Hardly a respectable manner in which to speak to the public is it?! I'd go along with your complain still, they're obviously trying to put you off taking action, as it will cost them money!!
adnanshah247
dude im absolutely furious! its not bad enough that my car looks like shyt i have to sit here and take rubbish from some tramp who doesnt know the difference between a supra and ford. yes he thought the supra was a ford! michael
can you fella's give me some good lines i could include in it?! No. But I will give you a link to a site that might be of interest: http://www.potholes.co.uk/ It's for pothole damage but goes into some detail about claiming from the council for damage to cars etc, I'm sure you'll be able to adapt some of it. supra_aero
The council I heard is quite generous paying out for stuff like this. Don't quote me on that but I know many people (family included) who have got payouts for damage done by potholes, mis placed road cones etc.

steady_dave
Had a guy on my street who had a really nice Ferrari 348. He lives in Spain most of the time but comes back to England for a few weeks a year, however when he was away our street was "speed bumbed" and when he got back he was distraught as he couldn't really get his Ferrari off the street and ended up selling it. Bad times!
