scooby_doo_do
Attempted to start up my Ultima spyder today, as it's been sitting in the garage a while now as the weather's been crap. First attempt, car starts and then stops shortly after. Second attempt, car start no problem but stalls when you let off the accelerator, Third attempt, car starts, leave the revs for about 30 seconds just over 1k, and then car seems to tick over nicely. Obviously i checked all the fluids first and all seemed fine. Had a little bit of smoke the first time it started but this cleared pretty much instantly - prob just crap in the exhausts. Here's a vid of it idling - think it sounds ok? or in need of a slight tune? http://www.tripkings.co.uk/ultima.avi i'll get another one in the daylight tommorrow when it's nicer and i've cleaned it, and fitted the seats. then all i'm waiting for is the steering wheel adaptor and i can take it out for a drive again :-) On a seperate note, i'd like to charge the battery to give it a little more juice. I've noticed its a sealed tall thin type of battery - does this make a difference to the charger i use, or can i just use the normal halfords charger and leave it in battery type "sealed" ? Many thanks Craig.
JamieP
Cool car, how does it perform compared to the cerbra you had? you should bring it to a club trackday or suprapod:)
Homer
No idea what engine is fitted but that sounds like it's running a bit rich. Was it properly warmed up by then and presuming it's got a carb, does it have an choke (either auto or manual) fitted? High lift cam? Really nice car, love it. As Jamie mentioned it'd be great to see that at some events in '
scooby_doo_do
it has a chevy small block with holley 4 port carbs. Don't think it has a choke at all - car had only been running for about 5-10 minutes when i shot that vid. Compared to the cerbera this is amazing. The handling is outragous and so is the tourque. With the cerb occasionaly it would catch you out as the back would spin on roundabouts etc with too much right foot, but this just sticks. Only thing i miss is the roof in this weather :-) but the heater's good, and i've driven it in the rain once (as long as you go over 20mph you dont get wet. Definatly taking it to some meets next year :-)
Big Supes
Big carb'd V8's are pretty crude as it is. It sounds happy as Larry to me. Awesome car, btw.
JamieP
Can you get a roof for it or would it mean a new shell?
marc_p
I've been wanting an Ultima GTR for a while now, the can-am is a bit too hard core for me with the lack of roof an all:d
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
TVRs, RX7s cars like this mate in cold weather if tuned they need a minute or two to warm up or they cut out.. my TVR last year ( used all winter) if i warmed it up properly it was fine but if i started it and did not hold accelerator for few mins from cold start it would cut out and foul plugs. scooby_doo_do
Can't get a roof unfortunatly. I was thinking of getting one made, but apparently that routes already been tried and failed. But part of the fun is having no roof!
