dangerous brain
Anyone got one and what do they think of it? The sat nav function I am told by the shop operates off google maps. Does that mean it only works when you have an internet connection? Its a long term decision a phone (18 sodding months now) so I want to make a good decision. I'm a bit put off because its not windows mobile based OS like its predecessor but if it all works as advertised I shouldn't have to add stuff to it. Cracking it to use foreign sims when abroad might cause me a concern though.
Ian W
Am due a new phone myself as well so would be interested to find out people's thoughts
dangerous brain
It ticks all the boxes, 8mp camera, nice big touch screen, gps sat nav, good sounds. Looks better than the I phone which has rave reviews. Its not as bulky and seems better built than tha N96. Only contender against it for me seems to be the latest vodafone blackberry offering. monsween
i was gonna get it but looks far too chunky. I went with the tocco instead. 5m pixel and smaller but basically the same no sat nav tho
dangerous brain
The tocco isn't really that much smaller and just doesn't add up for me specwise. I don't want any phone that doesn't have sat nav having had one for two years.

Ditto Been looking at the Iphone, blackberry (bold on orange as I'm on now or the storm on vodafone) or the Nokia E71
dangerous brain
E71 hmm goes to look at that one. Oh and I shall have a satisfying morning finally telling orange to go away in a less polite way MMM not liking the look of that. Small screen and very fiddly looking buttons. I know what you mean about the small screen....I'm thinking less to scratch but would rather have it larger than that. The fiddly buttons didn't bother me as I have dainty fingers Know what you mean about Orange as well as I've been with them for over ten years now and last year they basically royally screwed me over. dangerous brain
Agh I have to stay with orange until february, I can upgrade now but can't cancel until January. I can't use my phone at work which I spend 12 hours a day at. There is next to no signal at home or any one elses home that I visit so as a phone its utterly useless. I don't expect to have to stand outside to make a half garbled phone call which is what I've ha dto deal with for 14 months so far. GRRRRRR.. Fitz
The E71, Bold, Storm and Pixon are good phones. I work for 3 (not everyone's favourite network I know) and we've had a look at some of those phones and we have the E71 and tocco, due to get the Bold in Jan. I'd enquire about the Blackberry storm as that's one of the most popular phones we get asked about, that and the iPhone (always ask to see a live demonstration model)
michael
Sounds like the Omnia might be a suitable compromise? Doesn't have the 8mp camera (just 5mp) but is Windows Mobile, WiFi, GPS etc etc - I run IGO8 satnav on mine and it's really rather splendid. Phone has a few niggles but it's not too bad. Ian W
Goes to google the Omnia....
Ian W
What did you end up with in the end DB? I've just come to the point where I can get an upgrade from Orange but being three months from the end of my contract they're still shafting me with what phones I can have. Looks like I'm going to let them run the contract down and move to another provider.
dangerous brain
I'm in the same boat I have to wait until the end of the month to cancel then another month until it runs out Omnia does look like a good and sensible middle ground. Agreed. The guy on the phone tried to tell me that the cheap phones were basically only given to new customers and not upgrades as "orange are a business and I have to understand that". When I turned it back on him and said, "so what you're telling me is I should wait until my current contract has run out then change provider?" he tried to say no
MrRalphMan
Have a look at the HTC Touch HD. It's the one I'm going to go for after looking at the Samsung phones. Get the SPB Interface on there to replace the touch flow 3d and it flys.
dangerous brain
Isn't that only available on the orange network I am desperate to leave?
MrRalphMan
Nope, you can get it on O2 through mobiles.co.uk... See here. Although it comes with the unlimited text's bolton, it looks like you can swap it for the unlimited web bolt on no issues. See here Bad news is that they are out of stock of the phone.. Not what their web site said yesterday..
dangerous brain
Weird thats exactly who I used to get the phone I have now. Think I will keep an eye on that as I am stuck with orange for a month due to giving notice in a week. Cheers for that heads up. I would actually like to stay HTC as I've had a HTC phone now for 3 or more years and I love them. The M2000 was a corker, the M700 a more pocket friendly version so a quicker more modern variety is the natural step for me. You know what I am going to get that one. I like the look of it I really do and I like the deal as well. Mrs is adamant she wants the pixon so she'll get that.
Ian W
Just got a text from Orange today asking me about my recent phone call with one of their representatives and asked me to call back and fill in an automated satisfaction survey. Needless to say I voted 'poor' or 'dissatisfied' for all five questions.
RedM
The Gadget Show tested four mobiles last night. Iphone won. The Blackberry Storm came last due to being cludgy and hard work to use. dangerous brain
Hmm the plot thickens. I almost took out a new contract yesterday morning but decided to go to bed and sleep on it. I will wait til after christmas see what deals are around then.
Ian W
Ditto DB Only thing for me is that I'm a couple of months behind you contract wise so although i'm due an upgrade i've another 3 months stuck with Orange. Will see what's about in the new year
Guest navaraman
Hi all, Recently moved away from orange, best move i could have made. Poor reception at home and work. Went back to vodafone, better coverage but not too go on the phones on offer. Anyway, bought a N96, not impressed. It's very slow switching apps, seems to have a mind of its own on some things. Keeps on asking me if i want to connect to the internet. Might be worth seeing if there is a forum for what ever phone you are thinking of. I checked out the N96 forum after I bought mine. If i knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have bothered. Just my opinion, mind
dangerous brain
I've been hearing from a few people the same thing actually. Sounds the 95 is the better phone. I must admit I thought the 96 looked and felt cheapy plasticcy.
