supra_aero
i just can't understand how come the supra is so twitch on the back end in the wet whether etc on TT's and N/A's but yet other RWD's you see on the road are just flying pass with no problem. Any pictures yet mate ? You think supras are bad in the wet? You should try a rx7!
wile e coyote
yeh i test drove an rx7 in the wet and s__t myself I have a vvti and im sure it has better traction control than the earlyer supras, as i find it works well
razza
Sorry to hear this, they go all too easily in this weather, one thing I'm glad I don't have to worry about as much now with the audi, it was nice to get up an icy hill yesterday without the arse swinging all over the place It only takes a second to apply that little too much power in these cars when icy
tDR
Sorry to hear of your misfortune and glad you're OK! However, these cars can be driven in bad conditions like we're seeing at the moment. Just be very smooth. It sounds like you noticed the back end coming out too late, then over reacted with over compensation leading to your fate. Effectively dropping a gear at the wrong time wouldn't have helped either... Cheers, Brian.

My car was an auto so i wasnt dropping down a car as such mearly taking out of overdrive. the car had a fairly new set of dunlops on 275's on the rear and yet the car still aquaplaned. total bummer. Just having a mare with the insurance now. Apparently the book price is £1500 for 1997 twin turbo with 50k on the clock. !! absolute joke. Guest Garfy
it really sounds like some of you have some seriously badly set up supra's, I've had mine for 5 years, I drive it all year round, in all conditions, and I've (hope I don't tempt fate here) never had the back step out on me un-expectidly, I infact enjoy driving it in damp conditions, its fun. tt auto by the way, with not the best make of tyres on it either. vvteye
Glad your ok mate. I would say though, that you said nothing could have helped in this situation, but never underestimate what RLTC can do. I had the same problem in the damp, let alone ice, rear end twitching, trying to escape, and the change since having RLTC fitted is phenomonal. I also make sure both rears are of equal tread / pressures, because if not, thats also not helpful. Advice perhaps a bit late now I fear.... but very happy your ok. How about just driving carefully instead of gunning it? It's bollocks that the supra can't be driven safely in poor conditions. Ok, it can't be driven fast in poor conditions but it can be driven as safely as any other car.
Gazboy
I sometimes wonder about the members of this club. Perhaps some ought to have a decent specialist go over their cars to see why they are so 'twitchy' and perhaps give themselves a once over too. Adzys straight6
I agree with all that you said apart from the 'gunning it bit' did i mention i was doing 35-40 in a 60 zone?! The car was set up in japan, both THOR and fensport have seen it and stated it was a good setup, cant say much about myself but Id like to think theyd know what they were on about. I think it was just a case of bad luck in this case. regarding the tyres ive had P-zero's and goodyear eagle F1's before and although awesome in the the dry the dunlops seemed better in the wet. Unfortunately I couldnt find a tyre on the market that catered for black ice. But yeah if i ever get another one in the future then uprated traction control is top of my list! vvteye
I will also add though, that despite the traction control being set on the highest, I had two little sideways movements onn the way to work yesterday on black ice travelling around 25mph. The only way you'll grip on that is with chains or spikes I guess!
mikeyb10supra
Hey smithy, was going to come and vist you a warwick hospital but went to the pub instead! bet you wish you had bought my celica now! lol so what have the insurance company said mate? ps glad your okay! coming into town saturday? Do you not get a free hire car with your insurance? Hope the insurance sort it out quickly (they won't) mine took nearly 18 months to sort out. You sound a real good mate....full of inspiration ........... Glad you walked away dude, be careful out there guys, especially on M-road sliproads and roundabouts etc the muck and grime can get you unstuck real quick....ive had mine sideways not even on boost it really sounds like some of you have some seriously badly set up supra's, I've had mine for 5 years, I drive it all year round, in all conditions, and I've (hope I don't tempt fate here) never had the back step out on me un-expectidly, I infact enjoy driving it in damp conditions, its fun. tt auto by the way, with not the best make of tyres on it either. Same here...are you on stock wheels and suspension by chance?? All it takes is smooth driving and pissing people off as you build up speed ha ha regulation of the right foot is key. I was a little confused why the guy in question was using the overdrive button to be honest Edited December 13, 2008 by mikeyb10supra (see edit history)
Suprash
Lost mine in the wet once it goes it goes and no amount of skill will save you........just have to be sensible ALL the time. Not exactly true fella, car control is key, this is something I have been taught drifting, I always thought I was a fairly good driver and even though enjoying my Supra and thinking I knew how to handle her after 7 years of ownership after I started drifting I realised I knew very little about car control, but what I have learnt in the last year drifting would save me a lot more in situations I would like to see driving tests like, grrhh, cant remember where it is now, finland or somewhere like that, but it takes like 3 years to past your test and you have to learn to power slide/drift and skid pans etc, is that knowledge we lack and at a time of reactions you need to know it and not think about it
