Tom S
I'm at work, caught a train and it took 10 minutes + walking time. A friend lives 2 miles closer and it took him over 3 hours due to some idiots who cannot control their cars when driving. Its a difficult situation and most employers would like you to try

michael
So those people who can't make it in today... are you still expecting to get paid? Absolutely, I'll also be putting in a couple of extra hours to cover the expense of using of my own Internet, phone, heating, coffee and wear and tear on my office furniture. Is that OK? TLicense
Yes, because people who are working from home are exactly who that post is directed at. Pedant.
michel lane
Don't mind people saying that their health/home/happiness is more important than their work - you're allowed to prioritise as you like. However - I'd bet lots of money that these same people would be the first to jump up and down claiming unfair dismissal if they were sacked in favour of someone who would bother to go to work despite the weather conditions. What I'm saying is that if you want to reserve the right to prioritise different things in your work/life balance, you should extend the same courtesy to your employer. Very well put ..... michel lane
We only had a light dusting of what I thought was frost. I still left twenty minutes early though. Twenty miles and three hours later I arrived at work! If my boss was like Michel then there'd be some nursing of injuries for comments like that. How on earth are you supposed to know how long it'll take to get to work with so many variables to consider? Would he like it if his staff didn't go home just so that they could be at work on time? Wally! Its ok you saying this , but when your staff lives 10 minutes away from the office !! then thats really taking the piss dont you think ... They can get to mcdonalds at 12pm but cant get to work, even arriving late . i can see mcdonalds across the road !!!!..... i suppose at the end of the day thats why iam in the position that iam in and they are people that just work for me . Sack them, replace them with people who don't do this and are willing to work hard for their money. If you continue to tolerate their behaviour they will just push you even more. michael
god you are a hard MAN !!!..... Not really, there are plenty of people out there who would be thrilled to have a job, even if it means they have to ski to work - could be a good time to put a rocket up them even if you don't sack them. Put an ad in the local paper using their exact job titles and job descriptions, make it obvious you are looking to recruit but not looking to expand... that might get the point across

You chose to park there and you knew full well what the weather was like. Be a bit more pro-active next time eh. Our IT guys were working remotely from their cars! You slacker.
