michel lane
WHY is it that when this country get a little bit of snow / rain / ice , everyone makes the excuse of not going to work or will be late . Has anyone ever thought , Ahh its due to snow tomorrow , i better get out of bed earlyer so i can get to work on time, rather then iam going to be about 2 hours late because there is snow on the ground. What sort of society is this that uses every little excuse not to get to work !!!!!..... so how do the people in europe cope with this ?? the country just comes to a stand still ??... and the hype on the news, it just gives people another excuse...... so fustrated this morning with phone calls, "there is about 4 inches of snow outside , so i wont be coming in to work " WHAT !!!! you drive a moped !!!! no you drive a 4x4, unless you cant see the road then get your arse to work !!!!! else i class it as a holiday ..... ohhh you got no more holidays left , how conveniant.... marc_p
Well in all fairness I am completely snowed in at mine with no possible way out (snow is now about 6inches thick) and still coming down hard, plus my lane is very narrow and steep so no grittter ever comes up it. Looks like i'm working from home today.

I'm not making myself even more knackered than I already am for bleedin work!!! Work is THE least important thing in my life, I ONLY do it so I can pay my mortgage and bills, I want it to affect my life in the smallest possible way it can. Tom S
Michel, it would help us in the NE if the councils sent the gritters out, I live on an estate where there is black ice under snow and driving is not as much fun with cars every side. Therefore, I came to work on the train :o( Not that I have a car anymore thanks to some people !!!!!!!!!

Mike
Excellent! I love a good rant...! You should try living on the South Coast... the place comes to a halt with a bit of heavy rain
Snooze
Don't mind people saying that their health/home/happiness is more important than their work - you're allowed to prioritise as you like. However - I'd bet lots of money that these same people would be the first to jump up and down claiming unfair dismissal if they were sacked in favour of someone who would bother to go to work despite the weather conditions. What I'm saying is that if you want to reserve the right to prioritise different things in your work/life balance, you should extend the same courtesy to your employer. carl0s
I feel bad now because I'm at home. Maybe. It's so deep that it's up to the upstairs windows though Honestly? Is that how it is around Leeds at the mo? There's nothing but rain here. No snow or frost or anything, just loads of rain. I was really looking forward to thick snow too At least the missus won't be writing-off my Supra just yet.

supra_aero
This country isn't in a mess because of Gordon Brown it's more down to the lazy, whinging and selfish attitudes of its workers ie people like YOU Hogmaw you have to appreciate some people like yourself respect your employers etc. enough to make the extra effort for whatever reason, which is somewhat commendable. Unfortunately it would be wrong to assume and judge everyone by your good work ethic. Everyones predicument is different and a lot of people do simply do their job to pay the bills and given what their job may be or how they are treated at work, I can't blame them for one second that they don't want to make the extra effort for a poor employer. If you had a job you hated which you had to do for financial reasons or family commitment reasons and they treated you poorly and paid you badly, I'd love to know if you'd so eagerly set your alarm clock an hour earlier. Maybe you would, but I can't blame others for sleeping in.
AndrewOW
To quote IanC, "I love my job, it pays for my Supra". That's all you need, isn't it? Then again, I do love my job.
