fisherjohn Posted December 3, 2008 Share Posted December 3, 2008 My car is a J Spec and did have plastic headlights. I changed both headlamps to the uk spec glass ones 4 yrs ago. Now living in Spain with the supe and need to change to spanish plates etc. Does anyone know what would be required over here for the itv test requirements, thought i would ask as there are a lot of very informative people here. Multics Posted December 3, 2008 Share Posted December 3, 2008 I don't know how strict MOT stations are in Spain but if you want (and you should) the correct beam pattern you should get the US spec headlights. georigg Posted December 7, 2008 Share Posted December 7, 2008 John, Given the scarcity of UK front lights, it would be worth your while checking with the likes of NIC(ImportPIMP) or possibly posting for attention of Scandinavian Supra owners to see if any left hand drive lights available there. Luka-P Posted December 7, 2008 Share Posted December 7, 2008 From what Ive seen on The Garage, they deal with all Spanish motors etc I believe, the test which is equivalent to our UK MOTs are rather quite strict. From what they showed the cars are even tested on rocking beds to ensure they are structurally sound. Ill try and find the episode but it does give some quite good info. Ah the Discovery Channel! Is your car modified ? if it is you be better leaving it on UK plates and getting a tourist ITV and taking out of Spain every 6 months. bodilx6 Posted January 4, 2009 Share Posted January 4, 2009 I'm in Denmark and UK lights isn't allowed here as well. Probably same rules and in Spain. As mentioned, you just need the EU lights. It's probably going to be hard to get some used, so check with Toyota. You should also be able to get a bit if discount from them. Especially with the current situation, they should be desperate for customers. Regarding xenon, its just a matter of bulbs. Get in touch with Nic, as he have tested a lot of different systems and his really are good. I'm very satisfied with the ones I have. Also its a good thing to fit them when you are changing lights anyway, so you can mount the ballasts under the headlights. Bear in mind though, if the rules regarding xenons are the same in Spain as in Denmark, you won't get them approved legally. In DK to use Xenon, automatic levelling and washers/jets are required by law. But its very easy to switch between standard bulbs and xenons, especially if you hide the ballasts beneath the headlights.
