New TV needed

Plasma if you can afford it. Parts will be more expensive for repair though but colours will be better.

Don't bother with 720P, go with 1080P capable box. Unless you're planning to buy again in 1-2 years when OLED may be more prevalent :D

Also remember size - take diagonal size of screen x 2.5 = distance you should be from it for optimal viewing.

i.e 52' plasma = 130 inches = 10 ft 10 inches away to view.

Dont' go buying a 52+ screen if a 47 would suit better. Check out the current threads on avforums.co.uk , knowledge of customer experience regarding quality, warranties and customer services are always something you should weigh in on your decision to buy.

Then spend the rest on a decent sound system :-) Or the supra...

Just my little bits of advice :) I'm not a true AV expert like probably some on this forum

My TV:

http://www.froogle.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=SAMS-LE40A656

It's awesome. 2 guys from work that I know have this one and love them, too. I also know a guy who has the 52" version and it's incredible. Blu-ray on it is staggering. It's fecking huge though. He put his old 32" against it and it would fit the old screen inside the new one 4 times.

You can't get a higher spec for the price (or even close to it). It was by far the best LCD I came across when I was looking.

Looks pretty damn sexual as well.

Its a b***dy minefield if you dont know much about tv's, the more i look the more confused im getting lol

I think 48" would be the max i'd go to.

£250 for cash

just sat in the spare room, but will be going in the local paper later on in the week, as the missus is getting on at me now, to either use it as a gaming Tv or sell it;)

Thanks for the offer but your a bit too far away from me and i wouldnt risk sending a courier for it. Doubt it would get out of Devon in one piece let alone reach me still working !

No problem, but £50 of fuel it's still only £300 and I will throw in a cup of tea and a biscuit;)

Sony are good, but you do pay for the name, we now have 2 Panasonics and they are fantastic. I would definately recommend them.

LG in my opinion comes a poor 4th or 5th at the moment, Pioneer are in the lead though, but you will have to pay far more.

So my advise would be to get a Panasonic and if you are going to watch sports and fast moving things then Plasma is the better option although Lcd has caught up a lot recently

Why are the LG tv's so cheap, compared to Panasonic, Sony etc ? is this just a name thing or are they no where near as good.

LG 42PG6000 PLASMA HD READY blah blah lol £555.00

In my place of work we have 4 50" and 2 60" LG's, the quality is horrendous, I dont think their 1080p though, it really depends on your budget, at the size quoted above a panasonic plasma is a good bet for sub 2k, 2Kplus Pioneer, the blacks on my KRP500 cant be beaten:)

If you can go a little smaller i.e 40 I recommend the 37" LCD Philips with Ambilight, I have the 32" LCD one in my room and the ambilight is very nice!

The tea and biscuit almost clinch the deal :D

Yes from what im reading it looks like Panasonic is the way to go but i must admit i was hopeing to get 46" for under a £1k but looking doubtfull :(

That's what they say on avforums.

A year ago when deciding which plasma tv to buy Pioneer were on top followed by Panasonic and then Samsung.

Plasma's were supposed to be better than LCD's for fast moving stuff like sports etc.

Do some research on AVforums and your questions will be answered. :)

If size is really important and you dont have a Blue Ray Player,or any 1080p sources then you could probably get a 46" HD Ready(720p) Toshiba or Samsung for sub 1k, their defo good value for money

Think i'll put my shoes on and go have a look round my local comet to see what they look like as far as picture quality goes, was really hoping to go bigger as ive got a 38" at the moment which is definetly too small :D

When you come back from comet you will know all about these things and also be more confused than ever :D

I've have 1080p for 12 months and to tell you the truth not see much that actually runs at that level :innocent:

Blue Ray is better quality and more films are being produced in this quality now HD is gone.

Have a look what Aldi are selling, the've had some real cheap large TV in the past don't know the quality though!

I brought a Sony system ;) very expensive but all the latest stuff, should last a few years i hope.

Good luck with the search it only took me 3 months to decide :D

You can't take to much notice of the quality in places like Comet or Currys, due to the poor feed.

Take a Dvd like The Incredibles and ask them to plug in a Dvd player and go around a few you are interested in, but you can't go wrong with a Panasonic, especially at this price :p

The trouble is when you go to the shops the 42" screens start to look small when looking at the 50" and above.

It's pointless getting a big tv if you sit too close unless you don't care about picture quality.

Yes i agree.

I definetly want good picture qualty, my mother has a 48" Sony Plasma tv which is in a similar size lounge to mine and works really well and great picture qualty, just a bit out of my budget:(

Yes i guess your right, the safe bet is up the budget and get either a Sony like my mothers as its very good or a Panasonic, Pioneer are definetly out as there just too exspensive.

58" Is just a bit too big ! i'd have to sit outside and look through the window:d thats seriously cheap though, i could always knock a wall down and make my lounge 10ft longer :)

Sony don't make plasmas any more. And I would not be buying an LCD for the size screen you are looking at. They are crap with non HD stuff.

Get a panasonic.

Thanks for the info, Panasonic looks to be favorite so will see what kind of deal i can get.

Thanks for all the input guys, very helpfull :)
