Matt Harwood
Firstly, my knowledge of web designing could be written on the back of a postage stamp with a marker pen, so I'm guessing that what I'm about to ask for should be directed at the web designer... Take a look at our company website. On the whole we're fairly happy with it, although always open to suggestions. www.newport-imports.com What is not so great, in fact, what is really quite crap, is if you try to search for things like 'Mustang', 'Challenger', 'Dodge', 'Ram, 'F150' and so on, most of our competitors are on the first pages, if not right at the top. The only words I used that actually brought up our website were 'American Imports'. How / What do we need to do, or what can you offer, to help get us improve this? The top would be nice! Gaz Walker
Ah the age old "get me to the top of Google" request I didn't know you worked for them, the have some cool cars Its a combination of site design, popularity, and money. The quickest and easiest way is to advertise using Google Adwords, it'll cost a bit (its upto you how much you spend though), but in the end you can scale back your advertising when your site becomes more popular. I specialised in this many years back. I spent a lot of time on our site when it was first released, "Envy" in Google now comes up 4th out of 23m, which for a generic word is fantastic & we come almost top for everything we sell, which is where you want to be! Gerry
"Optimisation" is the answer Matt. First of all I don't know a lot either, but what I pay somebody who does for is to get me up to the top of the Google search. It's a way of writing key words into the the web site program, some which you will see on the site and some that are written in the background. We had a site and we were the same, you could only find us if you put the company name and town. Now I've linked the stuff we do (Karcher) in with the towns we sell to, so if you search now on Google "Karcher Bournemouth" we come up in positions one and two It's also linked to other key words, eg Steam Cleaner, Pressure Washer etc. The company we use tell me it's an ongoing process and we pay them monthly for the work they do. The hard thing is to find a company that will do as they say yhey will do (the first thing I did was to put thier name in Google) ! I'm sure there are dozens of companies who do this, but if you want to chat with my bloke please give me a PM. Cheers Gerry

Matt Harwood
Ah the age old "get me to the top of Google" request On the first page would be nice !!! I didn't know you worked for them, the have some cool cars I know. And I have to drive them too. What a total bummer! V8 Hemi's, V10 Vipers, mmm Challenger Its a combination of site design, popularity, and money. So is this something that we would need to do or the web designers? Does it have something to do with our front page not having much info on it? Gaz Walker
Website designers will do it for you, but normally at a cost, and generally ongoing too. Being critical the flash into homepage is killing it for you, it should open at the main page. Your also using too many graphics on the site for important information. The titles at the top of the page, topic/column headings etc don't have "alt" tags. This means search engines have no idea what these mean, as well as other factors. You need to get more keywords onto the homepage in the meta tags and hidden at the bottom of the page at first, then re-submit. Go from there. Gaz. I agree, except that I don't know if the meta tag trick works with google. Sounds like you know what you're on about though Gaz.

The meta thing doesn't work with Google, its too clever for that! It pays to have them working well though for the "other" search engines.
Darren-K
Matt, its called SEO, search engine optimisation meta tags are very important as are keywords and the meta description, however whatever meta keywords you use you must have them in the content on the front page also - if not some search engines like Google will penalise you with a lower position. You should also consider dumping all and any flash used on the front page, again some search engines will penalise you for this too. To get your site on the first page and within the top 10 of google is difficult - especialy with keywords like Mustang etc,. after all some companies pay thousands of dollars a week to google for that front page position. Anyhow,. i thought i would scan your site thru my own website optimisation sofware and give you the results here if it helps, you should read this report carefully, with the software i use - when your optimisation reaches a score of 100 you should be within the top 10 of the front page. However you got quite a lot of work to do Matt, your rank is pretty low right now . Rank #2,294,601 (right click and download ) http://v7music.com/newport-imports.doc

Fire148
The quickest way to get to the top of Google searches is to include porn meta tags on a YouTube posting as Google indexing uses the searches on YouTube in their search algorithm.
