jevansio
Thanks mate. Most RacingHarts are welded 2 piece they don't split BTW. That's OK though isn't it? I mean you can polish the outer lip regardless of it being 2 or 3 piece?

Ibrar/Dunk, is the finish on Dunk's wheels a true polished metal finish or is there a finish applied to it (chroming etc)? Ibrar Jabbar
Ibrar/Dunk, is the finish on Dunk's wheels a true polished metal finish or is there a finish applied to it (chroming etc)? No Dunk's were polished metal and then he decided all black, so I powder coated them gloss black.

Dnk
No Dunk, I'm just leaving them like that. They've got a brushed aliminium finish which I think is quite sporty, the mirror finish is too bling for me when I'll be using these as my track/fast road wheels. I'm pleased you posted that pic as that is the way I want mine doing, black inners. I was going to mask off the area where the studs go & spray that black too so the studs show up. Yours look stunning there PS did you not go all black with yours? Was that pic an inbetween shot? Yep mine are all black now, inners, outers and center piece with new wheel bolts. I was going the polished route but had a small change of plan
Dnk
A pic of the outer rims after several hours of flatting and finished off with scotchbright. Edited December 30, 2008 by Dnk (see edit history)
jevansio
Very smart, they must have made 2 versions of these wheels, mine are nowhere near as wide as yours, I'd say mine are 10" rear 8.5" front

jevansio
Well considering this was supposed to be a DIY refurb I've done pretty poor. I tried cleaning up 1 centre & got p1ssed off so sent them to the local wheel refurb place to get done. I chose silver as I'm most likely not keeping these now & I thought silver centres would open my target audience up over black centres. The lips are just layed over the centres at the mo so aren't perfectly flat and look a little crooked. Just need to bolt them up now & seal them . A couple just to compare how they started:
Dnk
Look pretty good to me I know you probably know but make sure you put a dab of loctite on each bolt and tighten them in a crisscross patern then they'll run nice and true

Dnk
Cheers Dunk, I didn't know that, cheers for the tip No problem and good luck fitting them back together, easy way we found at Ibrars was to stack 4 tyres on there side and stand the wheel vertically in the tyres so you can reach round each side easily to do the bolts up and not damage the wheel. What torque are you pulling the bolts up to ?

jevansio
Since I wasn't getting a sniff at the rims when they were £800 I thought I'm not letting them go for peanuts so I decided they would become my "driving" wheels. They're lighter than my Racing Harts, 18" as opposed to 19" so should handle better & I have more choice in tyre sizes from the R888 range. I've been busy this morning bolting the 1st one back together. Still got the valve to put in & apply the sealant. The bolts took me ages, I had to free the threads so the nuts went on finger tight, then polish each of the heads that are visible, took me around 2 hours to do 1 wheels worth I know they're not perfect, but they'll do for when I go on spirited runs over the moors on track days And again for comparison: Edited February 21, 2009 by jevansio (see edit history)
