need help oil coming out the front of engine

hi everyone hope you can help me ,

i have a 2jzgte engine in a ols s class merc here in thailand , and before i take it to a garage over here , i wonder if anyone can give me a clue , on where the engine oil could be coming from ,

 

from what i can see , the oil is coming out, half way up the engine , when looking down from the front of the car , then it runs down the engine round the bottom pulley , on to the floor ,

Sorry can't help you with the problem but never seen 2jz gte in a Merc before, looks great. What's it like to drive? Bet it surprises quite a few people.

 

hi

shes a bit of a boat to drive, but in a straight line , oo mummy[sHOCK][/sHOCK] .

she has LPG , so saves me a lot in fuel ,

to be honest the engine is much to powerful for the car ,

if i am doing 30mph and i hit the kick down ,the back wheels will just spin and spin;)

it may be coming from the front crank oil seal and the pully may be flicking the oil up!!

thanks for reply , may i ask is this a common

fault , with these engines?

Yes I'm afraid so, and the most likely cause is that the oil pump is worn or been contaminated, so if you find it is the FMS then replace the oil pump to.

sorry for asking , but what is FMS ,is it the front crank seal? and could you please give me an idea of the cost of the parts and labour , as being in Thailand and having no knowledge of this great engine , i do wont to sound like i know what i am talking about, to hopefully save some money at the garage

I'm not sure but possibly Front Main Seal.

 

What a quality car you have there. :)

 

 

thanks missile , love the engine , to hear the turbos sing is nice ,

when some pratt trys to do me on the inside lane , thats the norm , over here ,

i needed a big safe car for my family when i came to live here one year ago , and did not know much about the 2jz , done about 15,000 miles now and could not be happier will her

Yes front crank seal,

Unfortunately the whole sump has to come off to replace the pump, and to do this the front sub frame needs to come off to, needs a lift, had mine changed here and it cost me £300 + oil pump and seal about another £100, get whoever does it to carefully check out the oil for any metallic residue, hopefully you won't find any, but if you do it could spell trouble.

over here , the 2jz is the biggest engine they can get there hands on , re import tax , so the 2jz is the most transplanted , they put them in anything , and are good at it , I've seen 3 series BMW with the 2jz , Volvo's , anything gos over here ,

 

so to answer your question , the car was converted when i bought it ,

thanks ricky , thats what i needed to know , should i ask them to change any belts at the same time ?

There are some bits that are not stock 2JZ-GTE on there, can you post most pics of the gold collector thing and also the collection of red clips above the intake cam.

 

Is it running in parallel or sequential.

 

sure ,

what you are taking about is my LPG system , the gold thing is the pump for the system , and the red things are the injectors to each cylinder , the ecu is under the dash

 

runs very well on LPG ,

 

as for the turbos runing order i have no idea , all i know is first turbo comes in about 1500 revs the the big boy comes in about 3000 revs , does that help , to know how the turbos are working?

ok am thinking of having ago my self , at changing the oil seal on the front crank seal :blink: there is no sub frame to come off , easy to get the sump off, but can someone tell me if you get to the oil seal for the front crank seal , from inside the sump ?, or do you have to take the front crank pulley off ?

 

also i have been looking at some pictures of the 2jz gte on this forum , and cannot see anything like my setup re the fan that should be on the water pump , on mine it is not there , i have a different setup , anyone know , why some one would set it up like that:search:

Sorry about the confusion, as i was thinking of the Supra when removing the sump, if you don't have one then its somewhat easier,

Looks like you do have a different fan setup, you need to remove that and the rad to get enough clearance to get to the crank pulley, as the bolt is very tight, you will need a locking tool and a long breaker bar or decent impact wrench to undo it, you can replace the ancillary and timing belts while you're at it, as they have to come off.

also the cam belt drive pulley on the crank also has to come off if you want to just take a chance and just change just the seal, instead of the oil pump as well, but in my experience, 99% of the time the pump will have damage, but in any case all of that has to come off in order to remove the pump anyway as well as the sump.

thank you ricky , and swampy ,its a garage i need for sure then to do this job , but at least i will sound like i know what i am talking about :eyebrows:

 

as for the fan being where it is , the funny thing is . it has its own power steering fluid , going to it from its own resevoir, and that pipe line at the top of the picture is going to it ,

why would a fan need power steering fluid ?

The engine has probably come from an Aristo originally and not a Supra TT.

 

Same engine in essence but they have this quirk re the cooling fan and a few others (stock bov bolted to one of the turbo intake pipes - on a supra its x3 rubber hoses& clamps).

thank you thank you thank you Scooter, this is one great engine ,

just love learning about it , got her running nice and smooth on LPG , just one more oil leak to sought out and i will be happy bunny:)

ok been in the garage all day , watching the guys do there thing , they started at 9am , finished 5pm , they changed the 3 oil seals on the front of the engine , the 2 cam wheel pulleys oil seals , and the front crank pulley oil seal , and the two cam gaskets ,

 

think oil was coming from all of the above apart from one cam wheel oil seal , any way oil leak gone:p

 

think i am on to a good thing with this garage in thailand , 2 people worked there nuts off all day , and including parts , it cost me 60.00 pounds, in total ,

 

they checked the two drive belts and said, they are ok ,

 

now , they forgot to put new spark plugs in , but it was getting dark , so i told them next time ,

 

so please can someone tell me , what plugs to use and what oil i should use and how many miles before i need to change oil and plugs, plus anything else i should ask them to do next time i go there ,

again many thanks to this forum , and the people in it , that helped me :cool::cool:
