Need4Speed
I'm upgrading my brakes and will be replacing the fluid. Does anybody know of any reason not to use silicone brake fluid in a Supra, such as the seals don't like it. I know about clearing all the conventional stuff out first and not mixing fluid types etc.
Myles
I looked into silicone fluid a while back . The US army use it `cos it's maintenance free , ie. it's not susceptible to water . I've got a litre of the stuff at work (I'm back at work on monday fortnight if you want it - let me know) but decided in the end not to use it .... too many conflicting reports about spongy pedal feel etc. etc. It's recommended for low mileage classics that spend 10 months of the year garaged . I can't recommend 5.1 fluid enough - my old corolla used to loose pedal feel after just a couple of laps (imagine trying to reverse park & felling nervous about whether you'll stop b4 hitting a wall!) .... changed over to 5.1 & some s/s braided hoses & I had a good stiff PEDAL all day! ...also , one of the main selling points for silicone fluid is that it's not harmful to paint - I'd take my chances & not spill any5.1 over the bonnet
Adam W
Yeah, it's not designed to be high performance, it's designed to be low maintenance. Try the Motul H600 stuff that Chris and Paul sell, that's pretty good and not too pricey.
Myles
I just used 5.1 from halfrauds .... cheap & good .... the racing fluid you can get is a bit dearer though .
