RedM
Unless you watch anything in HD, or plan to, there's ZERO point in having 1080i or 1080p. I have a 37" 1080p LCD (JVC) and quite honestly it's crap at non-HD. Regular TV and Sky are poor. It looks good on 1080i through the XBox360 but for everything else it's not good. On the other hand, I have a 1080p Panasonic 50" plasma in the computer room/dining room which has a SkyHD box (SkyHD is only 1080i though) and the picture is really very good. If I were you I'd not get a Samsung though. I'd have a good look at the 720p range of Panasonics - I think they are the PX model codes. Apparently they are very good quality for the money, according to the guys that know about these things on AVFourms and PH. I'm a bit out of touch with AV stuff these days what with having no money available to indulge my interest. So, I have to ask, when you say the picture is crap compared to 720, what do you mean? I'm assuming that it's still a far superior image to a normal CRT. Is it just poor compared to hi-def? What makes it crap? Can you give examples? I'm not arguing just curious. Nick
I recently bought the new Pioneer Kuro 50" Plasma and it's staggering. As my last TV was a CRT from the early 90's this was er quite a jump I looked at every make and model I could and the Pioneer was leagues ahead with the Sony Bravia LCD a distant second. Many of the others such as Hitachi were shocking to be honest, you really do need to shop around. Japan is a bit different though, most of the TV is in HD. Bobbeh
My brother has a 46" LCD Sony Bravia (X series) and it looks pants for standard images, but he's in the US and they have HD all over the place on TV and those images are great. His is 120hz refresh. (2 x 60hz - US standards.) Ours at home (Sony Bravia V Series) is 50hz but 100 is better, its more flicker free, but tbh you're only going to notice the differences when you put these sets next to each other. If I could justify the extra cost then I'd go for it, but tbh the extra money (in my case) doesnt warrant it. They even have 200hz refresh rates now, it's endless
