Swampy442
Got a letter this morning :- "Dear customer, your direct debit will be going up as of 1/1/2009 to £91 a month" Now you might think I live in some 6 bed residence but nope, its a 2 bed terraced. Over a grand a year is an outrage, especially as I only started using the heating again in october!! Any other members had a shock recently

I use these guys and i get, gas, electric (and we use a lot) phone (free calls 24hrs a day including some international), broadband and i pay £120 a month may sound a lot but when you look at the prices of everyone else its damn cheap https://www.utilitywarehouse.co.uk/home/index.taf?exref=649044

tbourner
If you do ring them, make sure you have your meter reading with you so you can tell them and they can work out the cheapest price you're able to get. You can ask them to refund any amount of credit currently on your account as well, but remember you pay the same every month of the year but spend more in the winter - if you clear out your account credit now you'll have to top it up again next year! I'm gathering you are saying people should complain, reminds me very much of the fuel strikes and such. Not enough momentum to do anything. Consider a different fuel source if you feel so strongly. tbourner
You can get solar panels fitted now for about £2k can't you? That will reduce your gas heating usage by a LOT!
JohnnyW
British Gas are without doubt the worst company I have ever had dealings with and this was before the obscene price hikes and proiteering. I'd recommend moving company, I'm with Eon now (was powergen when I moved) it's like night and day compared to British Gas's service.

JohnnyW
I managed to get a fixed rate from 2005 - 2010 with Powergen (EON), not looking forward to it running out..... Swampy442
Im trying to get through, have done since 10 this morning but conveniently enough, the "system is down" so gonna try again at 2. I dont even use that much gas! Ill give them an actual reading when/if I get through.
jamesmark
The systems are down, some offices are back up and running though (there are 5 throughout Britain). More than likely your Direct Debit has went up for a reason. If you want PM me your details and I will have a look for you (if you read this before contacting them), even if you have spoken to them and not satisfied give me a shout. Shadow Beast
I got a letter the other morning, because the initial direct debt set up has not covered the amount we used, ie we owe £201 they have recalculated our direct debt to adjust this and recoup the £201 owed, giving a price increase of......................................... 245% Richie

JustGav
Thing is, DD is a bit of a con and the number of people who always used to say to me 'Why not just go DD, so much easier' has now matched the number of people saying 'Got rid of DD as they are skimming off the top'
tbourner
DD works out cheaper than quarterly I'm afraid.
