marbleapple
Bearing maybe? Only going over bumps?
Dazzi
Might be putting a strain on the bearing when hitting the speed bump.... just a thought
AndrewOW
Me too. I've had all the panels, seats, and seat belts out from that area, but never found anything loose inside. It must be something to do with the suspension.
Dyer864
Are there any rubber cushing/mounts , missing in any any of the suspension parts that would make it knock ! just a wild guess
Steve
Sounds stupid but have you guys checked the boot lid rubbers?
adnanshah247
had knocking from the back, turned out to be the brakes, i changed the shoes's disks and pads problem solved.
Big Ian
Sounds stupid but have you guys checked the boot lid rubbers? that's where mine was knocking at, so were 2 of my mate's Supra's i put a washer behind the rubber "bump stop" attached to each side of the boot lid itself .. and no more knocking
Steve
New rubbers are only around £12 from memory.
AndrewOW
It's definitely not the boot in my car. The sound is coming from much lower down.
SteveC
It's definitely not the boot in my car. The sound is coming from much lower down. I was convinced mine was a suspension problem and that turned out to be just the boot lid rubber blocks.
Lbm
It's definitely not the boot in my car. The sound is coming from much lower down. It may well be your exhaust pipe "wanging" (is that a word?) about at the rear bumper. Mine knocks a bit a low speeds & over speed bumps etc...but get the old girl up to a decent rate and it smoothens out nicely Edited November 24, 2008 by Lbm (see edit history)
Benyon
Mine knocks from both side and no one can find the problem, I have not bought top mounts yet thou, My mechanic said his mate with a supra has a knock both sides from the rear and he cant find what it is, I just turn the stereo up more Because i cant be arsed spending money on people looking at it and saying they dont know whta it is, Ive tried three good import specialist upto now. We should all get together And have a big head scratch at it.
AndrewOW
I was convinced mine was a suspension problem and that turned out to be just the boot lid rubber blocks. I may have to drive a short distance with my boot open (someone holding it etc), and see if it makes a difference.
GreaseMonkey
May possibly be the Rear Anti- Roll Bar Bushes or the Drop Links that are attached to the Rear Anti- Roll Bar? had similar problem on my N reg corolla.
GreaseMonkey
Just another thought came to mind as a quick/cheap diagnosis / elimination, try removing the Anti-Roll Bar Bushes and clean/grease the contact area that Anti- Roll bar the bush rubs on. -(and the hole inside the bush) Poss due to Dirt/Age bush getting a bit worn /slack or poss sticking/too much friction?. Big Ian
this might be worth a look, if you have an after market exhaust fitted? check that it is not hitting on a small cross member/bar that protects the exhaust hitting the propshaft. sorry i can't describe it better but i know that when i had my car up on a ramp last weekend i noticed that the bar had been bent away from the exhaust, it's to the rear of the prop. dcarrter21
i mite try the antiroll bar then. my boot was sqeeking but that got sorted with some rubber strips. how much are new roll bar bushes?
bodilx6
May possibly be the Rear Anti- Roll Bar Bushes or the Drop Links that are attached to the Rear Anti- Roll Bar? had similar problem on my N reg corolla. I have the same issue and have also tried everything. Even had Toyota re-torque everything in the suspension. I would love to check the anti-roll bars myself though, but what is the Drop Links? Chris Wilson
Just remove both drop links, if it still knocks it's neither them, nor the ARB bushes themselves. Top wishbone inner bearings come to mind as likely?
edge
i mite try the antiroll bar then. my boot was sqeeking but that got sorted with some rubber strips. how much are new roll bar bushes? New role bar bushes are cheap. Aschris said just undo the drop links and tie them out the way and go for a drive on a bumpy road. Come round on the weekend if you want aslong as its not raining and we can do it then.
