marc_p
Ok, my old civic has been stood for a while and today I have put a new battery in it as there was no battery in it and it started perfectly before(about 7 months ago) but now when you turn the key to start it all you hear is the fuelpump whine but nothing else whatsoever, I don't really know what it could be, any ideas? Steve
Have you checked all the fuses. Maybe spiked something with the new battery being connected.

Dazzi
Did you put new fluids in or was the car sitting with old? Also did you break a mirror, walk under a ladder... run over a black cat?
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
have you tried new plugs ?
marc_p
Ok, all fuses are fine. have you tried new plugs ? Wouldn't it still try and turnover with old plugs though? I do have some spare plugs I can try, well I have spare engine, gearbox, everything basically. Could it be the starter motor?
adnanshah247
hit the starter motor a few times with a hammer, check the battery terminals. if not try push starting it to get the things moving.
Guest banjo_bob
If there is a spade connector on the starter, pull off and push back on again ( thin wire, signal wire to starter solenoid) Very common on a lot of cars to loose the connection due to corrosion etc. Could also be the starter relay, but try the above first. Spark plugs won't stop it turning over unless one is in the engine and jamming a piston

Kranz
I was going to say bump start it as this should free off whatever it is that's preventing it starting.
