Ben-san Posted November 21, 2008 Share Posted November 21, 2008 I've come to notice that the car seems squidgy, exhibits tramlining and is a little unstable/skippy (techy I know) around bumpy bends. The worry here is, that I might be blaming the tyres while something else might be wrong. These are on UK17"s, all round. I had AFR torque up the subframes this week, so that's been eliminated as a cause. Other than checking all the suspension components (currently all stock with factory yellow billies) and going for a proper alignment session, could the tyres be causing these kind of handling issues? I've read on here that ZZ1s were a joke - and now wonder if the same faults apply to the ZZ3s. What are your thoughts? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm probably overdue a good alignment session anyhoo - and there's a place in Wembley that'll report on the condition of suspension components too. Funny thing is that the handling was spot on around the Alps (as far as my arse-geo sensor could tell). Perhaps something like a single damper has gone awry. Bugger. Will check the studs too. Thankfully, it was neither the tyres nor the suspension. I thought the easiest (and cheapest) thing to eliminate first was the alignment. Having explained the handling issues with the technician and looking at the readings, we came to the conclusion that it would explain the unstable behaviour when hitting bumps especially when turning right. A good 45 minutes (nothing was seized) and few adjustments later, and the car is now handling much closer to what I'd expect from a good driving experience. Note, that the car hasn't been in any arguments with the kerb since I've owned it. Worth checking even if you haven't had any noticeable problems. I've also replaced the rears with a fresh set of ZZ3s for sake of the journalist in me - so far, so good. Thanks for everyone's help. Thanks for everyone's help. I have the same problem (jumpy back end on bumpy roads) although my damper is knackered and getting fixed soon. I notice on the piccys you post that there are specs for the camber etc. Where did you get these ? Can any alignment place adjust to those specs ? or is it more of a specialist job ? The techie said that everything was easily adjustable on MKIV Supras - what he did do was chase down the numbers around the whole car to get each reading where he wanted them. I watched over what he was doing the whole time. Stuff like this doesn't happen on the usual front-rear alignment setups - go to a specialist (another one was mentioned just recently). Wheels in motion do a similar thing, first time is something like £100 pounds including vat and every time you go to adjust after that its just something around £35.
